CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team will open up their Spring Break trip Wed., March 8. The Golden Eagles will play seven games in eight days including six in Clearwater, Fla., as part of the Extra Innings Youth Foundation Clearwater Invitational. All seven games are slated to be nine-inning contests for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles come into the week with a 3-2 mark with two wins over Dickinson State University and one over Minot State University. Minnesota Crookston has been paced by their efforts on the mound. The pitching staff comes into Wednesday with a 3.38 ERA. The Golden Eagles are led in their starting rotation by
Cody Pamperin (Sr., RHP, Shakopee, Minn.), who is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA.
Parker Hanson (So., RHP, Hawley, Minn.) comes in with a 0-0 mark and a 2.70 ERA in 10 innings pitched. In the bullpen,
Nate Albrecht (So., LHP, Wahpeton, N.D.) has led the way with a 2-0 mark and a 4.50 ERA in four innings pitched. In addition,
Justin Yutrzenka (Fr., RHP, Argyle, Minn.) has posted a 0-0 mark and a 0.00 ERA in three innings pitched.
Minnesota Crookston is still looking to improve their performance at the plate. The Golden Eagles are hitting .228 on the season.
Reed Hjelle (So., 1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) leads the team with a .400 batting average with one run scored and five RBI's. In addition to Hjelle,
Ethan Mushitz (Jr., SS, East Grand Forks, Minn.) is batting .313 with three runs scored and four RBI's.
Anthony Stewart (R-Jr., OF, Oak Harbor, Wash.) is also off to a strong start from his position as leadoff hitter in the batting order. Stewart is batting .294 and had a .409 on-base percentage. He had five runs scored, three RBI's and four stolen bases.
Minnesota Crookston will play Division I foe South Dakota State University at U.S. Bank Stadium Wed., March 8 at 7 a.m. before embarking on their trip to Florida.
South Dakota State enters Wednesday with a 4-4 mark overall. They picked up a pair of wins over Waldorf University yesterday and will play University of Minnesota at 6 p.m. Tues., March 7.
The Jackrabbits have been led by Matt Johnson, who is hitting .409 with two runs scored, one home run and five RBI's. In addition, Landon Badger is batting .368 with two runs scored and four RBI's.
On the mound, SDSU looks to Ryan Froom, who has posted a 1-0 mark with a 1.38 ERA in 13.0 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, Bryce Hanson is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in five innings pitched.
The U of M Crookston will open their Florida trip Thurs., March 9 at 1 p.m. C.T. as they take on University of Missouri-St. Louis at Jack Russell Stadium, the former spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater, Fla. They will also play the Tritons Sat., March 11 at 1 p.m. C.T. at Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
UMSL comes into the week with a 0-6 mark. The Tritons have already opened up play at the Clearwater Invitational with a 12-11 loss in 10 innings to Ohio Valley University. Missouri-St. Louis is led by Derrick Freeman, who is hitting .389 with four runs scored and two RBI's. In addition, Tanner Hudson comes in hitting .364 with three runs scored and two RBI's.
On the mound, the Tritons have been led by Zach Lindsay, who is 0-0 with a 1.69 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched. The rest of their pitching has struggled as UMSL has posted an overall team ERA of 9.32.
The Golden Eagles will continue play Mon., March 13 at 9 a.m. C.T. against Rockhurst University at Jack Russell Stadium.
Rockhurst has posted a 7-2 mark on the season. The Hawks have also opened up play at the Clearwater Invitational. Rockhurst has posted a 1-2 mark in Clearwater, Fla. Rockhurst has been led by Brett Marr, who is hitting .447 with nine runs scored and six RBI's. In addition, Jeremy Lufft is hitting .438 with 10 runs scored, three home runs and 13 RBI's.
On the bump, the Hawks look to Michael Lydon-Lorson, who is 2-0 with a 2.29 ERA in 19.2 innings pitched. In addition, Joe Huber is 2-0 with a 2.09 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched. Rockhurst has been strong on the mound as they have posted a 3.94 ERA thus far.
Minnesota Crookston will conclude their trip to Florida with three games against Mansfield University. The Golden Eagles will take on the Mounties at 9 a.m. C.T. at Jack Russell Stadium. They will conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader Wed., March 15 at 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. C.T. at Jack Russell Stadium.
Mansfield is 4-4 on the season. The Mounties open up their play in Florida with the three-game series against the Golden Eagles. Mansfield is led by Jerry Chavarria, who is hitting .417 with four RBI's. In addition, Tanner Klein is batting .391 with five runs scored and two RBI's, while Peter Pena is hitting .368 with five runs scored, three home runs and eight RBI's.
On the mound, the Mounties are led by Luke Hills, who has posted a 1-1 mark with a 1.75 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched. In addition, Klein is 1-0 with a 2.33 ERA in nine innings pitched.
