Golden Eagles Host Mavericks and Golden Bears on Alumni Weekend at Lysaker Gymnasium

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston enters the final stretch of the regular-season as they host Minnesota State University and Concordia University-St. Paul Fri., Jan. 27 and Sat., Jan. 28 at Lysaker Gymnasium. It is Alumni Weekend for the Golden Eagles as the Saturday will be the Alumni Day for former UMC players who will return to campus. 

The Golden Eagles will look to continue a strong January, in which they have gone 4-3 so far. UMC comes into the weekend with a 6-12 (6-8 NSIC) mark and they are currently tied for fourth in the NSIC North with St. Cloud State. They will look to continue to remain in the top four in a quest to host their third-consecutive First Round game of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament.

Minnesota Crookston will open the weekend Fri., Jan. 27 against Minnesota State at 6 p.m. The Mavericks are 10-8 (6-8 NSIC) coming into the weekend. UMC will then face Concordia University-St. Paul Sat., Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. The Golden Bears are 13-7 (9-5 NSIC) entering the weekend.

UMC redshirt sophomore Isieoma Odor has been on fire in the last seven games for the Golden Eagles after moving to the bench. Odor is tallying 16.7 points per game over that time period. Her best game came with 22 points on 10-of-11 from the field against St. Cloud State. In addition, she had 21 points on 7-of-9 from the field at Bemidji State. Odor has relished her role off of the bench and is shooting 63.4 percent from the field. She is also averaging 6.6 rebounds per game and is shooting 79.4 percent from the charity stripe.

Alison Hughes continues to have a strong showing this season for the Golden Eagles. Hughes is among the top five in scoring in the league this season. The Janesville, Wis. native is leading the team with 16.8 points per game. Hughes leads the NSIC shooting 93.8 percent from the free-throw line this season. She has also been strong from beyond the arc where she is shooting 42.2 percent on the year.

UMC junior guard Micaela Noga has come into her own in recent weeks for the Golden Eagles. She had her biggest weekend of the season last time out against U-Mary and Minot State. Noga averaged 19.5 points per game last weekend. She is tallying 15.5 points per game over the last four for UMC. In addition, Noga is shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc. She has also been strong from the charity stripe, where she is shooting 87.5 percent.

UMC junior Emily Gruber has increased her production in recent games. One of the two most experience players for the Golden Eagles along with Micaela Noga. Gruber is averaging 10.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game over the last seven games for the Golden Eagles. She has had increased production in the post as she isn't as focused on shooting from beyond the arc. Gruber is shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 87.0 percent from the charity stripe.

- Minnesota Crookston comes into the weekend with a 6-12 (6-8 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles have played strong basketball of late as they are 4-3 in January so far. The Golden Eagles are coming off perhaps their best weekend of the season as they picked up a sweep of Minot State University and University of Mary. UMC enters the final stretch of the season in strong position as they are currently tied with St. Cloud State for fourth in the NSIC North. The 
Huskies and Golden Eagles split their two games this season. The next eight games will be very important in seeding for Minnesota Crookston as they look to host their third-consecutive NSIC/Sanford Health First Round game at Lysaker Gymnasium. 

- The Golden Eagles have been led by continuously improving play of their core four veterans who returned from last season. Alison Hughes is leading the way with 16.8 points per game, while Isieoma Odor is tallying 12.9 points per game. Micaela Noga and Emily Gruber have also been vital for UMC. Noga is averaging 9.2 points per game, while Gruber is tallying 8.1 points per game. In addition, the Golde nEagles have gotten improvement from their freshman class throughout the year.

- UMC is averaging 66.7 points per game and giving up 73.4 points per game to their foes. The Golden Eagles are shooting 38.0 percent from the field and allowing other teams to shoot 45.5 percent. UMC is shooting 32.5 percent from distance and 78.7 percent from the foul line.

- Minnesota State is 10-8 (6-8 NSIC) entering the weekend. They return a veteran squad from last season. The Mavericks look to Britney Scherber's 11.3 points per game to lead the way. In the post, Claire Ziegler leads the way with 11.1 points per game. Sammie Delzotto is one of the Mavericks' leading outside threats as she is shooting 40.9 percent from beyond the arc. She is averaging 10.0 points per game.

- The Mavericks are averaging 71.8 points per game and allowing other teams to score an average of 68.9 points per game. They are shooting 39.4 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from beyond the arc. 

- UMC was 2-0 last season against the Mavericks. In regular-season, the Golden Eagles beat Minnesota State on a last-second lob from Hughes to Odor. In post-season, UMC took down Minnesota State 83-72 in a home playoff game at Lysaker Gymnasium. 

- Concordia-St. Paul enters the weekend with a 13-7 (9-5 NSIC) mark on the season. The Golden Bears look to sophomore guard Anna Schmitt, who is averaging 17.4 points per game. In addition to Schmitt, 6-3 post Caitlyn Russell is averaging 10.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. At the point, Mishayla Jones leads the ship with 73 assists on the year. She is averaging 9.9 points per game. On the boards, Kyrah Fredenburg has been dominant with 10.5 rebounds per game, including 41 offensive boards on the year.
