FAYETTE, Iowa – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21) Fri., Sept. 30 at Dorman Gymnasium in Fayette, Iowa. The Golden Eagles had opportunities late in sets one and three, but were unable to overcome the Peacocks at home.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 6-8 (2-4 NSIC) with Friday's loss, while Upper Iowa improves to 8-7 (2-4 NSIC) with the victory.
The Golden Eagles hit .080 for the match with 34 kills and 25 hitting errors on the night. Minnesota Crookston looked to
Maggie Perrel (R-Jr., OH, New Germany, Minn.) with 14 kills.
Kassi Green (R-Jr., OH, Anoka, Minn.) added 11 kills, while
Kelci Green (R-Jr., MH, Anoka, Minn.) chipped in seven kills.
Sierra Trost (Sr., S, Ham Lake, Minn.) would finish the match with 32 assists for the Golden Eagles.
UMC struggled in their service game with five service aces and six errors on the night.
Defensively,
Ali Schueler (R-Fr., DS/Lib., Howards Grove, Wis.) led the way with 13 digs, while
Kaycie Hagen (Jr., DS/S, Savage, Minn.) added 10. On the block,
Kassi Green paced UMC with three block assists.
Upper Iowa was led by Haley Poula's 11 kills and .400 hitting percentage. Chelsea Berry added seven kills and hit .211.
The Peacocks would run an efficient offense, which would be the major difference for Upper Iowa. The Peacocks had 35 kills with just 12 errors as they hit .228 for the match.
At setter, Malissa LeCalire and Carlee Ketchum each had 13 assists.
Defensively, Ashley Larson led the way with 17 digs. On the block, the Peacocks looked to Poula's three block assists.
The Golden Eagles would be within one point at 23-22 late in the first set. However, Berry would come through in the clutch for Upper Iowa to deliver the set 25-22.
The Peacocks would control the second frame, winning 25-18 on a
Kassi Green attack error.
In the third set, UMC would be knotted up with Upper Iowa 21-21 following a
Kassi Green kill. However, the Peacocks would step up to win the final three points, aided by two Perrel attack errors.
Minnesota Crookston will return to the court Sat., Oct. 1 at 4 p.m . against No. 7 Winona State University.
