Golden Eagle Volleyball Falls 3-0 to No. 7 Winona State

WINONA, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team struggled Saturday as they fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-12) Sat., Oct. 1 to No. 7 Winona State University in Winona, Minn.   The Golden Eagles would hit just .060 with 25 kills and 20 errors in Saturday's loss.

UMC ends a tough weekend with a pair of road losses as they fall to 6-9 (2-5 NSIC). Winona State improves to 14-2 (5-2 NSIC) with the victory.

The Golden Eagles were led on the day by seven kills from Maggie Perrel (R-Jr., OH, New Germany, Minn.), however she also had seven hitting errors on the day. Kelci Green (R-Jr., MH, Anoka, Minn.) added five kills and hit .333. 

Rachel Freund (R-So., OH, Jordan, Minn.) and Kassi Green (R-Jr., OH, Anoka, Minn.) also had five kills apiece.

Sierra Trost (Sr., S, Ham Lake, Minn.) would finish the game with 23 assists.
Defensively, Ali Schueler (R-Fr., DS/Lib., Howards Grove, Wis.) led the way with eight digs, while Kaycie Hagen (Jr., DS/S, Savage, Minn.) added six.

The Golden Eagles also struggled in the service game with just two service aces to seven service errors.

A rising Winona State squad, who is currently fifth in the NSIC, was led by 11 kills from Taylor Goar and Danielle Rampart. Goar hit .421 for the game with just three hitting errors, while Rampart hit .429 with just two errors.

The Warriors would hit .474 for the match with 42 kills to just six errors as they mastered efficiency in their system on Saturday. That was due to the play of McKenna Larsen, who finished with 34 assists.

Defensively, Goar led the way with 11 digs, while Maria Wrage helped on the block with two block assists.

The Golden Eagles will return to action Fri., Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. against No. 11 Northern State University.
