Soccer to Host a Pair of NSIC Games This Weekend

Crookston, Minn.- The 2-6, 1-4 in the NSIC, Golden Eagles will finally get a chance to play a few games at home this weekend as Concordia University, St. Paul and Minnesota State University Mankato make the trek up to Crookston. With a sweep of the two conference games, the UMC squad will get back into the playoff hunt and jump over Concordia, St. Paul in the standings, all while equaling Minnesota State's nine NSIC points.

The Golden Eagles have struggled to score through their first five conference games as they have only netted three total goals in NSIC play. The opportunities have come on some solid chances but the team must finish better to get on the up side of the scoreboard. The team has also shown glimpses of brilliance in net, and on team defense, but a whole ninety-minutes of play each day must be the focus during the conference weekend.

Saturday vs. Concordia St. Paul, 12:00 pm

The Golden Bears (1-4-2, 1-1-2) have been led by three scorers as Jade Weller (So., Prior Lake, Minn.), Chelsie Lindsay (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Katri Gifford (Lino Lakes, Minn.) each have scored two goals. Weller leads her team in total points as she has also helped out with a pair of assists. Concordia has used a pair of keepers throughout their first seven games with Jordyn Clark (Fr., Eagan, Minn.) figuring in most of the decisions as she has posted a record of 1-2-2. The Golden Bears split last weekend's conference games as they knocked off Southwest Minnesota State 2-1, but then lost 1-0 to the University of Sioux Falls.

Sunday vs. Minnesota State Mankato, 12:00 pm

The Mavericks (4-2-1, 3-2) were off to a 0-2 start in NSIC play but have recently competed to three straight one sided wins. Last weekend they knocked off USF and SMSU by scores of 4-0 in each contest. Morgan Cottew (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) leads her team in points and goals as she has scored five times and picked up a pair of assists. Taylor Kenealy (Fr., Inver Grove Height, Minn.) is not far behind Cottew's production as she has found the back of the net four times and picked up one assist. Alexa Rabune (R-Fr., Cedar Falls, Iowa) has been steady in goal as she has a goals against average of 1.27 through five games started, and has backed the team to a 2-2-1 record in those starts.
