Bismarck, N.D.- On a cold, windy fall day in Bismarck, North Dakota, the UMC soccer team fell behind early en route to a 2-0 conference loss to the University of Mary in a Sunday afternoon NSIC match.
Â
On the opening play of the game the Marauders caught the Golden Eagles off guard as Meagan Searson (Sr., Blackburn, England) sent the opening touch from midfield to the back of the UMC net just three seconds into the conference match, setting a new NCAA record for fastest goal from the opening whistle. The long shot got past senior goalkeeper
Lexie Gauger (Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) who faced 11 total shots, making four saves. Gauger was beat again, late in the first half, when Searson set up the second University of Mary score in the 38
th minute of play. Kylee Welch (Fr., Bismarck, N.D.) headed the ball home that was sent in off a free kick by Searson.
Â
UMC was outshot 11-1 in the conference loss with junior midfielder
Ellie Brettschneider (Lakeville, Minn./Sport and Recreation Management) taking the lone shot for the Golden Eagles. Â
Â
The 2-6, 1-4 in the NSIC, Golden Eagles will finally get a chance to play a few games at home this week. They started the season playing six-of-seven on the road and will now play three straight at home, the first on Saturday when they host Concordia University, St. Paul (1-4-2, 1-1-2).
