Fayette, Iowa- The 2016 season is off to a quick start and the UMC soccer team put one in the win column Friday afternoon, as they bested the Peacocks of Upper Iowa University 1-0 in NSIC conference action.

The only goal of the conference win came at the 9:26 mark when sophomore forward,
Lorna McCall (Chicago, Ill.) was set in on a breakaway on a ball from junior midfielder
Nicole Corbin (Ramsey, Minn./Health Science and Biology). The score was McCall's first of 2016 and Corbin's assist was her second of the season.

UMC's defensive play was big on the night and
Paige Pettit (Fr., St. Michael, Minn.) was a big help in front of senior goalkeeper
Lexie Gauger (Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) who face 28 total shots, 13 of which made it onto the net. "We really gutted this one out tonight," said head coach
Joe Alianiello. "Lexie pretty much played as well as she could too."

The Golden Eagles got nine shots off in the game, eight came in the second half. McCall took four of the shots, the final was another breakaway opportunity in the game's final minutes.

With the win UMC improves their conference record to 1-1, 2-3 overall. They will have another tough road match on Sunday when they travel to Winona State for a NSIC game that is scheduled to start at 12 pm. The Warriors dropped their conference record to 0-2 with a 3-2 loss to Bemidji State, late Friday night.
