Soccer Shutout in Sunday Contest

Winona, Minn.- The UMC soccer team played their sixth straight road game, Sunday afternoon, where they closed out the extended road trip with a 4-0 loss to Winona State University. The conference loss drops the Golden Eagles' NSIC record to 1-2, 2-4 overall.
Ā
UMC was outshot 8-1 in the opening frame and found themselves down 2-0 at the half. Four different Warriors scored in the conference game with Abby Bohanski (So., Plover, Wis.) putting what would be the game winner behind UMC goalkeeper, Lexie Gauger (Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) who took the loss. Through regulation, Gauger faced 16 total shots, nine on goal, where she made five saves.
Ā
UMC was again outshot in the second half but the margin was much closer as the final tally was 8-7 through the 45 minute period. Tori Hill (So., Brandon, Manitoba) led the way for UMC as she took two shots, both of which were stopped by the Warriors' goalkeeper, Jourdan Valkner (Fr., Wayne, Ill.) who made five saves, earning the shutout.
Ā
The Golden Eagles will look to even up their conference record on Thursday as they open up the home portion of their 2016 schedule when they host Minot State University (3-1, 2-0) in an NSIC match that is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm.
