CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team will hit the road for one last time in the regular-season as they face Minot State University Wed., May 4 at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles are one win away or a Wayne State College loss away from clinching a spot in the NSIC Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2001. The games will be played at Corbett Field.
UMC enters the week with a 23-15 (16-7 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles have already set program records for overall wins and conference wins. They are currently fourth in the NSIC standings, as they head into their final six games of the regular-season. UMC is hitting .309 as a team on the season. Freshman
Reed Hjelle (OF/1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) leads the Golden Eagles with a .380 aerage with 13 doubles, 28 RBI's and 32 runs scored.
Ryan Haggstrom (Sr., 1B, Apple Valley, Minn.) is batting .374 with 40 runs scored and 33 RBI's. In addition,
Kenny Perez (Sr., DH/1B, Orlando, Fla.) is batting .373 with eight home runs and 42 RBI's on the year.
On the mound,
Nolan Wahlberg (Sr., RHP, Blaine, Minn.) leads the way with an 8-1 mark and a 4.24 ERA in 68 innings pitched. Fellow senior
Jarad Nelson (Sr., RHP, Karlstad, Minn.) is 5-2 with a 4.47 ERA in 52.1 innings pitched. Freshman
Zach Seipel (RHP, Eagan, Minn.) has been a force on the back-end for the Golden Eagles. Seipel leads the NSIC with 10 saves, while posting a 2-1 mark and a 4.80 ERA.
Minot State is 7-30 on the season with a 4-19 NSIC mark. The Beavers are led by Jordan Schulz, who is batting .375 with 39 runs scored, nine doubles, seven home runs and 39 RBI's. Kyle Williamson is hitting .336 with 31 runs scored, four home runs and 23 RBI's. Minot State is hitting .282 as a team on the 2016 season.
On the bump, the Beavers have had their struggles. Kendal Daniels is 1-3 with a 6.69 ERA in 37.2 innings pitched, while Austin Berntson is 3-4 with a 7.66 ERA in 47.0 innings pitched.
