Minnesota Crookston Women's Basketball Hosts Bemidji State Thursday

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team will head into Winter break with a Thursday showdown against NSIC rival Bemidji State University. The game will be played at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn. Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. 

The Golden Eagles come into the game with an 0-8 mark and they are looking to snap their skid. Bemidji State is 3-5 on the season.

UMC freshman guard Kitri Zezza is coming off a strong weekend for the Golden Eagles. Zezza came off the bench to average 7.0 points per game last weekend, including a season-high 11 points against Northern State on Saturday. Zezza is looking to continue a tradition of strong players for the Golden Eagles from St. Michael-Albertville H.S.

Alison Hughes had a down weeekend for her against Northern State and MSU Moorhead. But she is off to a great start to the season. Hughes is tallying 16.3 points per game this season. She is shooting 90.9 percent from the charity stripe this season.

Kelsey Stinson has been strong for the Golden Eagles over the last four games. Stinson is averaging 10.3 points per game over the last four for UMC. Stinson had 12 points against St. Cloud State and MSU Moorhead and 11 versus Northern State. She is averaging 7.3 points per game on the season and shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 41.0 percent from beyond the arc. UMC is hoping to get continued production off of the bench from Stinson.

UMC redshirt sophomore Isieoma Odor is averaging 11.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season. She has been the post presence for the Golden Eagles this season. Odor is coming off of 13 points and nine rebounds against MSU Moorhead last Friday.

- Minnesota Crookston comes into Thursday with an 0-8 mark. They will look to get in the win column as they host their rival from just down U.S. Highway 2 Bemidji State University on Thursday at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles have taken three of the last four from Bemidji State with the only loss coming 71-69 to the Beavers Dec. 19, 2014 at Lysaker Gymnasium. 

- The Golden Eagles are looking for more consistency as they head into Thursday. They have struggled in the first quarter in conference play as they have been out-scored 91-55 in the first quarter in their first four conference games this season. UMC will look to get going quicker as they take on Bemidji State Thursday.

- Alison Hughes is leading the way for UMC with 16.3 points per game. She is shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc. Isieoma Odor has also had a good overall start to the season as she is averaging 11.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. A player to has been coming on as of late for the Golden Eagles has been Kelsey Stinson. She is tallying 7.3 points per game and shooting 41.0 percent from beyond the arc. 

- The Golden Eagles are shooting just 35.3 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from beyond the arc. UMC is shooting 73.9 percent from the charity stripe. UMC is scoring 62.6 points per game. Defensively, UMC is giving up 77.1 points per game to their foes. They are allowing opponents to shoot 47.5 percent from the field and 39.8 percent from beyond the arc.

- Bemidji State starts three seniors and one junior in their starting line-up in an experienced line-up. The Beavers are in their second season under Chelsea DeVille. They have posted a 3-5 mark overall. BSU has been led by the play of Tatum Sheley, who is averaging 15.0 points per game and shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc. In the post, Sierra Senske, grand-daughter of former UMC men's basketball coach Gary Senske, is averaging 12.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Aimee Pelzer comes in tallying 10.3 points per game and shooting 34.1 percent from beyond the arc.

- The Beavers have a couple of freshman that have been strong off of the bench. Sydney Arrington is tallying 9.1 points per game and shooting 57.7 percent from the field. Eric Gartner is averaging 6.3 points per game and shooting 41.4 percent from beyond the arc for Bemidji State.

- BSU is averaging 74.8 points per game and giving up 76.1 points per game to their foes. The Beavers are shooting 40.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. Bemidji State is allowing opponents to shoot 42.7 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from beyond the arc.
