Crookston, Minn.- The UMC soccer team dropped a home contest, 1-0, to the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead, Friday afternoon. With the win, the Dragons claim the Rivalry Rock and even up the highway 75 series at 2-2. MSUM improves their conference record to 2-6, 3-7 overall, and passes UMC who now sits at 2-8-1 overall, 1-6-1 in NSIC play.
Neither team was able to score in the opening half with the Golden Eagles controlling the ball for most of the opening frame. The game's only goal came in the 56
th minute of play as the Dragons were awarded a free kick, just outside the box. Jessica Johnson (St. Michael, Minn.) took the free kick and scored her fourth goal of 2016 on a shot that went low to UMC keeper
Olivia Puttin's (Fr., Rogers, Minn.) left. The Friday start was Puttin's second of the 2016 season and her record drops to 0-2.
UMC outshot MSUM, 16-7 in the conference match with
Kallie Gau (Sr., Monticell, Minn./Early Childhood & Elementary Education),
Lorna McCall (So., Chicago, Ill.) and
Hannah Riveland (Fr., Moorhead, Minn.) each taking three shots and each getting a ball on goal.
The Golden Eagles will take Saturday to prepare for their next contest when they hit the road and play at Northern State University on Sunday. Opening kick in Aberdeen, South Dakota is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
