CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-11) to No. 7 Augustana University. The Golden Eagles would play strong in the second set hitting .276 with 12 kills and four errors, but they would struggle on ball control on the evening as they couldn't consistently get much offense going in the match. Minnesota Crookston would finish with 24 kills and 22 errors and hit just .026 on the match.
The Golden Eagles fall to 9-15 (5-11 NSIC) with Saturday's loss. They are tied for 11
thplace with Upper Iowa University, who they take at home Fri., Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. Augustana improves to 22-4 (13-3 NSIC) with the win. The Vikings are tied for fourth in the NSIC.
Minnesota Crookston would look to
Kassi Green (R-Jr., OH, Anoka, Minn.) with eight kills, but she would hit just .038 on the evening.
Kelci Green (R-Jr., MH, Anoka, Minn.) added five kills and hit .300, while
Rachel Freund (R-So., OH, Jordan, Minn.) had four kills but hit -.083.
Sierra Trost (Sr., S, Ham Lake, Minn.) had 20 assists on the night as UMC hit .026. Trost needs just 36 assists in the final four matches to surpass Cassie Yates for No. 2 all-time in career assists.
Defensively,
Ali Schueler (R-Fr., Lib., Howards Grove, Wis.) led the way with seven digs, while Trost added six. On the block,
Kelci Green had one solo block and two block assists.
Augustana had balance on the night. Lauren Waite led the way with eight kills and hit .389. Bailey Koch chipped in seven kills and hit .750. The Golden Eagles neutralized former University of North Dakota outside hitter Courtney Place, who had six kills and six errors. Kelsey Kaufmann would add six kills.
At setter, Anna Sykora would finish with 28 assists as the Vikings hit .342 for the match with 36 kills and just 10 errors.
Defensively, libero Tahlyr Banks led the way with 14 digs. On the block, Koch paced Augustana with three solo blocks and one block assist.
Augustana controlled the first set, taking the frame 25-13 on a Sophia Terwilliger kill.
UMC would get to within 21-19 late in the second set after a Hanna Justesen service error. However, Augustana would take four of the next five points to take the frame 25-20.
In the third set, Augustana would jump on Minnesota Crookston early as they took the first six points to lead 6-0. They wouldn't look back as they would win 25-11 to take the match.
The Golden Eagles will return to action Sat., Nov. 5 against Upper Iowa University at 5 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium.
