UMC Football Closes Out Home Slate Against No. 21 Minnesota Duluth

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston football team will conclude their home slate Sat., Oct. 29 against No. 21 University of Minnesota Duluth at 1 p.m. The game will mark Senior Day as the Golden Eagles honor 16 seniors who put their blood, sweat and tears into the UMC football program over their time in the Maroon and Gold.

The game is also the Ed Widseth Scholarship Game. The Golden Eagles will honor recipients of the Ed Widseth Scholarship and the Crookston Chamber Agassiz Bowl Scholarship at half-time.

UMC senior running back Andre Person had his breakout game of the season against Minot State. Person finished with 142 yards on 17 carries for 8.4 yards per carry. He will look to build on his big weekend on Senior Day against 
Minnesota Duluth. Last season, Person had 26 carries for 107 yards and a 
touchdown against the Bulldogs.

Junior Wide Receiver Adam Connette is leading all-time receiver in UMC history after surpassing career marks for receptions and receiving yards. Connette needs 13 touchdowns to set the career touchdown mark. Connette has been the leading offensive threat for the Golden Eagles with 53 catches for 604 yards and two touchdowns. In his career, Connette has 158 receptions for 1,903 career yards.

UMC has five student-athletes who have stuck together for four seasons. Tyman Hayashi, Drew McDurmin, Nathan Cole, Mike Maw and Jake Christopherson were originally part of the 2013 class and have played four years in the Maroon and Gold. The five players have formed a lifelong bond during the last four seasons and will suit up at Ed Widseth Field for the final time Saturday. In addition, fifth-year seniors Stan Harvey and Tanner Walsh will also suit up for the final time, along with nine other seniors.

UMC corner Aeric Berner had his second interception in as many weeks, this time against Minot State. The difference with this one though was that he returned it 75 yards for a touchdown. It was the first defensive touchdown for the Golden Eagles on the 2016 season. Berner, a sophomore, has continued to improve this season. He has 32 tackles with two tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions on the season.

- The Minnesota Crookston football team is coming off a tough 38-30 loss to Minot State last weekend. They had a strong offensive showing with 353 yards overall, including 226 yards on the ground. The Golden Eagles will look to end the 2016 season on a strong note as they host No. 21 Minnesota Duluth for Senior Day.

- Minnesota Crookston will look to come away with impact turnovers again this week. The Golden Eagles have five interceptions in the last two weeks, including three against Minot State with Will Cross, Jake Newman and Aeric Berner all coming away with interceptions.

- Mike Maw has had an impact senior year at kicker. He is 7-of-11 this season with a long of 36 on the year. Maw will look to make an impact on Senior Day against UMD.

- The Golden Eagles will honor 16 seniors who will play their final game at Ed Widseth Field Saturday, including:

- Minnesota Duluth comes in averaging 541.6 yards per game, including 294.4 yards per game through the air. The Bulldogs are led by the play of quarterback Drew Bauer, who has thrown for 2,251 yards through the air and rushed for 553 yards. His top target in the passing game is Nate Ricci with 37 catches for 739 yards, while Jason Balts has 30 grabs for 539 yards. Also look for Beau Bofferding to impact both the rushing and passing game. Bofferding, a wide receiver, is listed as the starter at running back this week. Bofferding has rushed for 380 yards and has 321 yards through the air this season.

- The Bulldogs are allowing 406.2 yards per game defensively this season including 311.2 yards per game through the air. The leader of the defense has been Beau Bates, who has 57 tackles with 11.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. In addition to Bates, Kegan Wirtz has 34 tackles and two interceptions.
