Soccer to Play a Pair of Home Games this Weekend

Crookston, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team enters the final two weeks of regular season play with an overall record of 2-11-1, 1-9-1 in the NSIC. This weekend they will look to better their conference mark as they host a pair of NSIC squads that are also looking up at a lot of teams in the conference standings.

UMC has been able to keep close to their opposition this year but finishing has been the task that has eluded their offensive effort. The Golden Eagles have dropped four straight one-goal games but the team has been better as of late with creating opportunities and getting shots off, but finishing with shots on target has been a big part of their struggles putting up wins.

Midfielder, Hannah Riveland (R-Fr., Moorhead, Minn.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career in UMC's last game where the Golden Eagles lost in overtime, 2-1, to Augustana University. Riveland has created some better scoring opportunities as of late and she will look to help her team's leading scorers in senior Kallie Gau (Monticello, Minn./Early Childhood and Elementary Education) and freshman Lindsey Daml (North Pole, Alska) who have each scored twice.

Saturday, Oct. 22 vs. University of Sioux Falls

The 1:00 p.m. contest versus the Cougars, (3-9-2, 3-7-1) could be a defensive battle between a pair of teams that have not scored a lot of goals in 2016. USF holds a slight edge as they have netted nine goals to the Golden Eagles' six. Neither has given up a great number of scores either with the Cougars holding a slight one goal edge at 24 goals against, to UMC's 25. Morgan Perkins (So., Liberty, Mo.) has been the only goalkeeper for USF in 2016 and she has a goals against average of 1.65. Senior forward, Lola Weiss (Fulton, Mo.) has been the Cougars main offensive threat as she has scored three goals and taken 22 total shots.

Sunday, Oct. 23 vs. Southwest Minnesota State University

The second game of the weekend also has a 1:00 p.m. start and will feature a Mustangs team with an overall record of 5-8-1, 4-6-1 in the NSIC. SMSU has a little more offensive punch as they have scored 21 total goals this season but they have also given up 29. In their last game, the Mustangs were able to knock of UMD 4-1.

SMSU has been led by a trio of scorers with Amanda Hartmann (Jr., Savage, Minn.) leading the way with four goals. Emily Huddleston (Jr., Trenton, Mich.) and Alexandra Miskowiec (Fr., Andover, Minn.) are just behind Hartmann as they have each scored three goals. Jessica Craigmile (Fr., Adel, Iowa) has been the lone keeper for the Mustangs, where she has backed her team with a goals against average of 2.02.
