CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team fell 93-69 to the University of Minnesota Duluth Sun., Jan. 10 at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles fall to 3-11 (1-9 NSIC) with Sunday's loss, while UMD improved to 13-3 (9-1 NSIC) with the victory.
The Golden Eagles were highlighted by 15 three-pointers overall, which tied the school record set during the 2003 season against University of Minnesota Morris. Eight different players hit three-pointers led by five from 
Derrick Redd, Jr. (Sr., G, Menifee, Calif./Sports and Rec Management).
UMC could not slow down the Bulldogs, who would shoot 33-of-51 for 64.7 percent from the field. In addition, they were 9-of-16 for 56.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Redd led the Golden Eagles with 15 points on 5-of-12 from the field and 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. 
Kobe Critchley (Fr., G, Roseville, Minn./Health Science) added 10 points.
The Golden Eagles were 25-of-59 for 42.4 percent from the field and 15-of-33 for 45.5 percent from beyond the arc.
UMD had two players score over 20 points on the evening. Taylor Lavery led the way with 26 points on 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. He was an unblemished 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Pierre Newton added 23 points and 11 boards on 7-of-12 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Brendon Pineda chipped in 11 points and five boards.
UMD would control the majority of the game, despite UMC being able to hit threes for most of the game. The Golden Eagles would go 8-of-16 from beyond the arc in the first half and would be sitting on 10 until the final minutes when their bench players decided to make a last-second run at the three-point record. A pair of threes from 
Riley Rice (Jr., F, Mullen, Neb./), a three from 
Darin Viken (Fr., G, Fosston, Minn.) and two three-pointers from 
Aaron Hollcraft (Fr., G, Crookston, Minn.) would tie the record. Hollcraft would have the definitive three-pointer.
The Golden Eagles will hit the road to face Concordia University, St. Paul Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. and then will take on Minnesota State University, Mankato Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.
