DULUTH, Minn.- An 11-minute spell in the first half would lead Michigan Tech University over the University of Minnesota Crookston soccer program. The Huskies would score five goals during that 11-minute period, leading them to the win. Michigan Tech improves to 3-1 on the season with the victory, while Minnesota Crookston drops to 0-3-1. The game was played on neutral turf as they faced off at Griggs Field at Malosky Stadium on the campus of University of Minnesota Duluth in Duluth, Minn.
The Golden Eagles were able to get their team defense together and play a more organized final 65 minutes of the game. In the second half, especially, the Huskies wouldn't find the net and would have just eight shots overall and four shots on goal, compared to 15 shots with 13 on goal in the first half.
Olivia Mecham (Fr., GK, Waunakee, Wis.) made her first career start and would finish with 12 saves, while giving up the five goals.
The win for Michigan Tech in net would go for Jenna Phelps, who made one save and had no goals against in over 72 minutes of play. Meghan Riopelle came in for the Huskies late in the game, to play the final 17 minutes.
The scoring would start on a corner from Lexi Herrewig, who found Madeline Faust for the goal at the 14:11 mark of the first half, to start things. Jacqueline Mielke would get on the scoreboard the first time in the game, soon after, scoring off an Olivia Smith pass from over 35 yards out to find Mielke, who put it away. Mielke, would score her second goal of the game at the 19:34 mark off an assist from Janelle Riedl.
The Michigan Tech scoring would continue as Herrewig scored off an assist from Mielke at the 22:02 mark. It would finish as Herrewig scored unassisted to make it 5-0.
The Golden Eagles would play a stronger second half, keeping the clean sheet, while generating four chances and one shot on goal after just one shot in the first half.

Ellie Brettschneider (So., D, Lakeville, Minn.) and
Kallie Gau (Jr., MF, Monticello, Minn.).
Michigan Tech was led by Herrewig, who had seven shots with six shots on goal, two goals and one assist. Mielke had four shots, five on net and two goals with one assist.
The Golden Eagles will return home to face Minot State University at 1 p.m. Sat., Sept. 19. They will then take on University of Mary Sun., Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
