Soccer Opens Up Home Schedule With a Tie

Crookston, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team kicked off their 2015 home schedule with a 1-1 draw versus Northwest Missouri State University, Friday afternoon.

UMC opened up the game's scoring in the 15th minute when sophomore defender, Ellie Brettschneider (Lakeville, Minn./Sport and Recreation Management) headed a ball cleared into the box by fellow defender Molly Buck (Lakeville, Minn.,/Elementary Education). The Golden Eagles had a couple other quality scoring chances, and outshot the Bearcats 7-3, in the opening frame but UMC went into the halftime break with the 1-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles out-shot the Bearcats (7-4) again in the second period, but the lone goal of the half came in the game's 50th minute when Northwest's Elizabeth Lee (Sr. Omaha, Neb.) finished off a close up shot that was sent in by Cassie Holtman (So., Maryville, Mo.).

Neither team found the back of the net in the two overtime periods but UMC had the two best chances as midfielder Delaney McIntyre (Sr., Flin Flon, Manitoba) got a long distance shot on net while forward Lorna McCall (Fr., Chicago, Ill.) put some pressure on from close up.

The Golden Eagles (0-1-1) will return to the home pitch on Sunday when they host Missouri Western State University (2-1) who lost an overtime game, 0-1, at Bemidji State earlier today. Opening kick is in the nonconference match scheduled for noon.
