UMC Softball Falls 10-2 and 6-1 to Southwest Minnesota State

CROOKSTON, Minn.-  The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team fell 10-2 and 6-1 Friday to Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-36 (0-22 NSIC) with the losses. Southwest Minnesota State improves to 24-20 (13-9 NSIC) with the sweep.

Jordyn Derflinger (Jr., RHP/OF, Henderson, Nev./Elementary Education) got the game one start for the Golden Eagles and would go 3.1 innings, giving up eight runs, seven of them earned, on nine hits. Bailey Braatz (RHP, Buffalo, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) would come in and give up two runs, one of them earned, on five hits.

The Golden Eagles would get on the board first as Alexis Khoshaba (Jr., OF, Richmond, British Columbia/Sports and Rec Management) belted a two-run home run to left field to put UMC up 2-0, driving in herself and Allison Foley (Jr., SS, Lockport, Ill./Accounting).

The Mustangs added a run in the second as Karmann Carroll scored on a Elissa Reinsma ground out.

SMSU would add three runs in the third led by a Carroll double down the left field line to plate Jazmyne Nealy and Kailey Hanson.

The Mustangs would have a big fourth inning led by a Madisson Chadwick double to drive in Alysse Luttmann and a Hanson double to drive in Chadwick. Southwest Minnesota State would score five runs in the fourth to take the
lead 9-2.

A Hanson walk in the fifth would drive in Katelyn Kalkman as the Mustangs took the 10-2 lead in the fifth to run-rule the Golden Eagles.

Alex O'Connor got the game one win, going five innings and givin up two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts.

UMC was led in game one by Khoshaba, who was 1-of-3 with two RBI's and one run scored.

SMSU would start out game two with a big first inning as the Mustangs put up five runs in the frame. Southwest
Minnesota State was led by a Neely two-run single to drive in Luttmann and Hanson. Taylor Koloc would hit a double to drive in Carroll to put SMSU up 5-0.

The Golden Eagles would add a run in the fourth as Gabriel Antolak (Fr., C, Zimmerman, Minn./Equine Science) hit a single to drive in Josee Plante (Sr., 3B, Manitou, Manitoba/Health Science).

The Mustangs added a run in the sixth when Luttmann singled to drive in Erica Downing.

Sammy Knudson (So., RHP/IF, Fergus Falls, Minn./Health Science) would get the game two loss, going three innings and giving up five earned runs on five hits. Braatz would come in and pitch well, giving up one earned run on three hits.

The win for Southwest Minnesota State would go to Erin McDurmont, who pitched seven innings and gave up one earned run on five hits.

The Golden Eagles were led in game two by Plante, who went 2-of-3 with one run scored.

Minnesota Crookston's doubleheader against University of Sioux Falls has been moved up to 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D.
