SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team fell 8-0 and 6-0 to University of Sioux Falls in a Saturday morning doubleheader in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Golden Eagles fell to 4-38 (0-24 NSIC) with the losses. Sioux Falls improved to 26-18 (12-12 NSIC) with the wins.
Victoria Bayliss (Fr., OF/RHP, West Bloomfield, Mich./Elementary Education) got the game one start and would go 1.2 innings, giving up eight runs on eight hits.
Brooke Vatthauer (Sr., LHP, Crookston, Minn./Health Science) would come on in relief and pitch well, shutting down the Cougars in 2.1 innings pitched with just one hit allowed.
The Sioux Falls scoring started in the first as Betsy Thomas singled to drive in Erin Scott. A Leah Husemoen two RBI single would drive in Danielle Walker and Thomas to make it 3-0.
The Cougars would add five runs in the second. Breanna Black would score on a Shannon Daly groundout. Thomas would then come through with a triple to drive in Scott. Walker would continue the scoring the Sioux Falls as she singled to drive in Thomas. Alyson Netty would come through with a two-run home run to drive in Walker to round out the inning.
Black would get the win for Sioux Falls, giving up no runs on one hit. Netty would come through in relief, shutting down UMC in her one inning.
UMC's lone hit in game one came from Bayliss.
In game two,
Bailey Braatz (So., RHP, Buffalo, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) would get the ball and go 5.2 innings, giving up six runs, four of them earned, on nine hits with five walks allowed.
The Cougars started the scoring in the first as Scott and Daly would each score on groundouts.
In the second, Scott would single up the middle to drive home Megan Peterson.
The Cougars would add two runs in the third as Husemoen scored on a Black groundout. Peterson would come across later in the inning on a wild pitch.
Sioux Falls would round out the game as Thomas singled to center to drive in Britni Broussard.
The Golden Eagles picked up hits from
Alexis Khoshaba (Jr., OF, Richmond, British Columbia),
Josee Plante (Sr., 3B, Manitou, Manitoba) and
Shelby Hollinger (Sr., 2B, Neudorf, Saskatchewan/Health Science).
Black would get the game two win, as well, going six innings and giving up just two hits with no runs allowed.
Minnesota Crookston will return to action Wed., April 22 as they take on University of Mary at 2 and 4 p.m.
