MINOT, N.D.– The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team fell 69-52 to Minot State University Friday night at the MSU Dome in Minot, N.D. The Golden Eagles fall to 7-16 (5-14 NSIC) with Friday's loss, while Minot State improved to 13-12 (8-11 NSIC) with the victory.
"The start of the game we were running our offense, making them work defensively and making shots and threes," said UMC Head Coach
Dan Weisse. "The reason we were making those is because it was through our offense. We were making them move side to side, touching the post, getting inside-out three's. That all changed as we started shooting three's that weren't part of our offense, more one-on-one stuff. That's not what we're about."
The Golden Eagles were led on the evening by
Tyler West, Jr. (Sr., G/F, Portland, Ore./Communications), who secured 11 points and three rebounds.
Kevin Larson (Sr., G, New Ulm, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) added 10 points and had three steals, while
Derrick Redd, Jr. (Jr., G, Menifee, Calif./Sports and Rec Management) had nine points.
Tomas Parker (Sr., F/C, Pequot Lakes, Minn./Management) came off the bench for one of his better games in a Golden Eagle uniform, with seven points.
UMC was 16-of-48 for 33.3 percent from the field and 5-of-23 for 21.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Minot State had three players score in double-figures for the game. Everett Robinson led the way with 17 points and seven boards, while Lamont Prosser added a near double-double of 14 points and nine rebounds. Tyler Rudolph came off the bench for 10 points and seven boards.
The Beavers shot 27-of-55 for 49.1 percent and were 5-of-18 for 27.7 percent from beyond the arc. They out-rebounded UMC by the tune of 41-27.
UMC would hold their own early on, leading at times in the early-going. They were tied 17-17 following a Larson three with 9:14 left in the first half. Minot State would use a 21-8 run to end the half to go into the break up 38-25 on the Golden Eagles. The Beavers would hold their lead and build upon it to pick up the 69-52 win over UMC on the evening.
The Golden Eagles will look to rebound against University of Mary Sat., Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. in Bismarck, N.D.
