St. Cloud State Uses Big Second Half to Defeat UMC 97-68

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – A big second half guided St. Cloud State University to a 97-68 win over the University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team Saturday evening at Halenbeck Hall. The Golden Eagles went into the break down just 39-31 but the Golden Eagles would be out-scored 58-37 in the final frame led by 19 second-half points from Scottie Stone. Stone would finish the game with 26, while Gage Davis added 22.

The Golden Eagles fall to 2-5 (0-3 NSIC), while the Huskies improved to 4-4 (2-1 NSIC) with Saturday's victory.

Minnesota Crookston was led by 17 points from Derrick Redd, Jr. (Sr., G, Menifee, Calif.) on 7-of-16 from the field and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. A.J. Walton (R-Fr., G, Oak Hills, Calif.) added 10 points off the bench. All of Redd's 17 points came in the first half. He was held scoreless in the second half.

The Golden Eagles shot 24-of-52 for 46.2 percent from the field and 6-of-18 for 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. They struggled from the free-throw line, connecting on just 14-of-23 for 60.9 percent.

St. Cloud State was led by Stone's 26 on 9-of-19 from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. St. Cloud State would dominate from beyond the arc, hitting 15 on the game. Davis added 22 points and 11 rebounds and was 9-of-13 from the field and 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Andy Foley came off the bench for 11 points.
The Huskies were 36-of-67 for 53.7 percent and 15-of-25 for 60 percent from beyond the arc. They were 10-of-16 for 62.5 percent from the free-throw line.
The Golden Eagles were as close as 32-30 with 1:35 left in the first half after a pair of Gable Smith (R-Fr., F, Lodi, Wis.) free throws. However, St. Cloud State would out-score UMC 7-1 to end the half.

St. Cloud State would own the second half, out-scoring UMC 58-37, while shooting 62.2 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from beyond the arc as they hit nine of their 15 three-pointers in the second half.

The Golden Eagles will host Wayne State College (Neb.) at 8 p.m. Sat., Dec. 11 at Lysaker Gymnasium.
