#Tidbits- The University of Minnesota Crookston offense was shut down last week against one of the nation's top defenses in Minnesota State. The Golden Eagles had just 138 yards of offense with only 82 yards rushing. The Golden Eagles are averaging 55.8 yards rushing a game and 186.8 yards passing per game coming into the St. Cloud State weekend.
- One big problem for UMC this season has been giveaways. UMC has 11 interceptions and one fumble lost on the season. Of the interceptions thrown this season, seven have come deep into opposing team territory, negating previously good drives for UMC. Those seven have come within the 40 yard line of the opposing team. The Golden Eagles will look to change this trend on the road at St. Cloud State. Opposing teams are plus-eight on turnover margin this season for UMC as the Golden Eagles have two intercpetions and two fumble recoveries.
- UMC will look to get more going in the rushing game this weekend. The Golden Eagles have been led by
Dre Person, who has 109 yards rushing with an average of 2.7 yards per carry. Harold Halcom has 80 yards rushing with 2.4 yards per carry. Also look for
Adam Connette to be more involved in the rushing game as he has seven carries for 36 yards for an average of 5.1 yards per carry.
- The young Golden Eagle receiving crew is on track to do good things this season. UMC finished the year with four players with over 100 yards receiving on the season and they already had three that accomplished for this season with
Triston Richert,
Adam Connette and
Constant Jackson. Richert is averaging 48 yards per game for the Golden Eagles as a redshirt freshman.
- The Golden Eagle defense has been led by the play of their safeties so far this season. The group of three
safeties has accounted for 87 tackles of 322 on the season.
Lethzee Calderon leads the way with 35 tackles, while
Jake Newman has 27 and
Ali Alkhatib has 25.
- UMC has had several true freshmen make an impact this season. The biggest impact has come from defensive tackle
Bubba Cook, who has 16 tackles and two tackles for loss. Also on defense,
Conner Finnestad has played well with 13 tackles and three tackles for loss. On offense,
Rodney Stewart has six catches for 70 yards. Freshman have also impacted the offensive line as
Duke Smith has three starts, while
Kolby Castillo has also been a key cog. Other freshman who have played roles this season for UMC are
Aeric Berner,
William Cole,
Zach Greenberg and
Lincoln Tappe.
- The St. Cloud State offense comes in averaging 407.8 yards per game with a good balance with 234 yards a game through the air and 173.8 yards per game on the ground. In the backfield, the trio of Ledell White, Jaden Huff and quarterback Nate Meyer has been potent as each player has rushed for over 100 yards. In the passing game, Meyer has 936 yards passing with three touchdowns. His top target has been Jameson Parsons with 418 yards. With Matt Hentges out recently, that leaves Kasai Farris with 132 yards receiving and tight end Grant Thayer with 112 yards receiving as the next best option.
- The St. Cloud State defense has struggled at times, as the Huskies are giving up 411.5 yards of offense to opposing teams led by 270 yards a game through the air. Winona State passed for 329 yards last week against the Husky secondary. Southwest Minnesota State had 244 yards passing, while Augustana torched the secondary for 399 yards passing. The Golden Eagles will look to take advantage of the secondary in Saturday's game.
- St. Cloud State has struggled in the kicking game as Derek Witte has just attempted two field goals, making one from 20 yards out, but missing from within 20.
