CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team will host Concordia University-St. Paul and No. 21 Minnesota State University, Mankato this weekend at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn. The Golden Eagles will host the Golden Bears at 8 p.m., Fri., Jan. 16 and the Mavericks at 6 p.m., Sat. Jan. 17.
The UMC men's basketball team is off to a strong start on the season, but has struggled in recent weeks, going 1-3 in the new year. The Golden Eagles are 6-8 (4-6 NSIC) overall. UMC has been led by guard
Derrick Redd, Jr., on the season. Redd is averaging 12.6 points and 4.5 rebounds on the year. In addition to Redd,
Tyler West, Jr., a 6-6 forward, is averaging 11.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. UMC is in their first season under Head Coach
Dan Weisse.
The Concordia men's team is 9-6 (5-4 NSIC). The Golden Bears are in their first season under new Head Coach Joey James. The Golden Bears are led by guard Cole Olstad, who is averaging 14.5 points and 5.4 rebounds, while point guard Terez VanPelt is averaging 10.9 points and 4.3 assists per game.
Minnesota State owns a 12-3 (7-2 NSIC) mark overall. The Mavericks own a No. 16 national ranking. The Mavericks are led by 6-9 post Assem Marei, who is averaging 19.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game and is one of the most dominant players in the NSIC. In addition to Marei, point guard Zach Monaghan comes in averaging 13.4 points and 8.7 assists per game, while 6-4 guard Connor Miller comes in averaging 11.7 points per game.
