UMC Women's Basketball Opens New Year Against U-Mary and Minot State

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston  women's basketball team will host University of Mary and Minot State University Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 as they open the 2015 part of each of their schedules. The Golden Eagle women's team will take on the Marauders at 6 p.m. Jan. 2 and the Beavers at 4 p.m. Jan. 3.

The UMC women's basketball team comes into the weekend with a 3-7 (2-4 NSIC) record on the season. The Golden Eagles have been in almost every game they have played this season with six of their losses coming by an average of 5.7 points. Minnesota Crookston has been led this season by 5-10 forward Katrina Moenkedick, who is averaging 14.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. In addition, fellow junior Alexa Thielman is averaging 14.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Thielman has struggled beyond the arc but has diversified her game to keep the Golden Eagles in the thick of things.

The University of Mary women's basketball team enters the weekend with a 6-6 (4-2 NSIC) mark. They entered the break with a three-game win streak, defeating Southwest Minnesota State University, University of Sioux Falls and Minot State University. The Marauders have been led this season by 5-10 forward Brittney Dietz, who comes in averaging 19.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 31.7 percent from beyond the arc. In addition to Dietz, 6-0 forward Hannah Larson is averaging 10.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Minot State University enters the weekend with a 6-6 (1-5 NSIC) record. The Beavers are led by 6-2 power forward Christina Boag, who is averaging 11.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. In addition to Boag, Katie Hardy is averaging 11.5 points and 5.4 rebounds, while 5-10 guard Diondra Denton, is averaging 10.6 points and 4.8 rebounds.
