Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Golden Eagle soccer team closed out a two-game weekend with a 1-1 tie at Northern Michigan University, Sunday afternoon.
NMU controlled the ball through most of the first half where they outshot UMC, 10-2. The only score of the opening frame came from the Wildcats junior defender, Hailey Beyrand (Bloomington, Minn.) as she hit a low hard shot from 20 yards out.
The Wildcats again carried the ball for most of the second period but the Golden Eagles picked up the tying goal in the 75th minute when senior midfielder
Erin Mears (Sioux Falls, S.D./Criminal Justice) chipped a ball through to junior forward
Courtney Armborst (West St. Paul, Minn./Biology) who scored her fifth goal of the season, from five yards out.
The two teams played scoreless through the rest of regulation and the two overtime periods but UMC had a couple good chances in the extra time. Golden Eagle goalkeeper
Lexie Gauger (Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) was busy on the day as she faced 25 total NMU shots, with the sophomore making seven saves; three of which came in overtime.
The 1-2-1 Golden Eagles will return to conference play next weekend when they travel to Minot State University on Saturday (1-1-1) and University of Mary (1-1-1) on Sunday.
