Golden Eagles Fall 13-2 and 18-4 to No. 3 Minnesota State to Conclude Four-Game Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn.-  The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team fell 13-2 and 18-4 to No. 3 Minnesota State University, Mankato Sun., April 13 at the MSU Baseball Complex in Mankato, Minn. The Golden Eagles gave up a seven-run inning in game one and a six-run inning in game two as they fell 13-2 and 18-4, respectively.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-29 (0-18 NSIC) with Sunday's losses as they continue to look for their first conference win. Minnesota State improves to 28-7 (16-4 NSIC) with the doubleheader wins.

Trevor Buttermore (So., P/3B, North St. Paul, Minn./Criminal Justice) got the game one start and went five innings, giving up 10 runs (four of them earned), on nine hits, with four strikeouts. Buttermore would suffer the loss on game two.

Buttermore would give up just three runs in his first four innings, but Minnesota State would explode for seven in the fifth. The Maverick scoring would be aided by an Stetspm Olson three-run home run in the inning.

The Golden Eagles got their first run of the game in the third as Josh Brehmer (Sr., 2B/SS, Falcon Heights, Minn./Communication) had a sacrific line out to score Marcus Campbell (So., OF/P, St. Croix Falls, Wis./Golf and Turf Management), who had doubled to lead off the inning.

UMC would add another run as Brehmer singled and Jesse Jennings (Jr., OF, Robbinsdale, Minn./Criminal Justice) scored on an error.

T.J. Larson would get the win for Minnesota State after going five innings and giving up just one earned run on five hits.

The Minnesota State bats in game one were led by Max Waletich, who was 2-of-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. In addition, Nolan Johnson was 2-of-4 with two RBI's and a run scored.

UMC was led in game one by Brehmer, who was 1-of-2 with two RBI's.

In game two, Thane Larson (Sr., P, Grantsburg, Wis./Natural Resources) would get the ball for Minnesota Crookston. Larson would give up five earned runs on 10 hits in the loss. Ryan Paasch (Sr., P, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) would also pitch and would give up fours runs, only one earned, on four hits in one inning. Jon Mittag (Sr., P, Glenville, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) would fnish up the game and would give up eight earned runs on six hits in two innings pitched.

UMC would score a run in the fourth as Buttermore reached on an error and Ryan Haggstrom (So., C/1B, Apple Valley, Minn./Accounting) would come across the plate after hitting a double to lead off the frame.

The Golden Eagles would add three in the seventh as three runners would score on either errors or wild pitches from the Mavericks.

Minnesota Crookston was led in game two by Patrick Higgins (Fr., OF/2B, Eagan, Minn./Criminal Justice), who went 2-of-3 with one RBI.

The Mavericks were led by Waletich, who was 3-of-5 with four RBI's and Todd Standish, who was 4-of-5 with three runs scored and four RBI's.

Taylor Nowracki got the game two win for Minnesota State after going five innings and giving up no earned runs on three hits.

The Golden Eagles are slated to play Concordia University-St. Paul at home April 15. More information on whether that game will be played at UMC Baseball Field or in St. Paul, Minn., will be announced tomorrow.
