Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn..- The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team fell 14-0 and 14-1 to No. 3 Minnesota State University, Mankato Sat., April 12 at the MSU Baseball Complex in Mankato, Minn. The game were the first two of a four game series, which was relocated to Mankato.
The Golden Eagles drop to 1-27 (0-16 NSIC). They are still seeking their first win in conference play, but also have yet to play a true home game at UMC Baseball Field. Minnesota State improves to 26-7 (14-4 NSIC) with the pair of victories.
The game one start for Minnesota Crookston went to
Matt Korte (Sr., P/3B, St. Cloud, Minn./Accounting). Korte would get the loss as he went 4.2 innings, allowing 10 earned runs on 10 hits.
Ryan Paasch (Sr., P, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) would come on in relief of Korte and pitch 2.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits.
Minnesota State would come up with big innings in fourth and fifth, with five and six runs respectively. The fifth inning onslaught was led by a two-run home run from Eric Peterson. In the fourth, a Max Waletich single drove home two to lead the way for the Mavericks.
Minnesota State ace Jason Hoppe moved to 7-1 in the win after pitching six shutout innings and allowing just three hits.
Patrick Higgins (Fr., OF, Eagan, Minn./Criminal Jutice),
Travis Magdzas (Jr., OF, Duluth, Minn./Criminal Justice) and
Trevor Buttermore (So., P/3B, North St. Paul, Minn./Criminal Justice) accounted for the Golden Eagle hits.
Minnesota State's bats were led by Nolan Johnson, who was 4-of-4 with three runs batted in (RBI's) and two runs scored. In addition, Waletich was 3-of-4 with three runs scored and two RBI's/
In game two,
Richie Navratil (Sr., P, Blansko, Czech Republic/Sports and Rec Management) got the start and would suffer the loss for UMC. Navratil would pitch 5.1 innings, allowing 11 earned runs on 16 hits.
Cody Pamperin (Fr., P, Shakopee, Minn./Golf and Turf Management) would also see action for UMC, going 1.2 innings and allowing three runs on four hits.
The win for the Mavericks went to Bryce Bellin, who went five innings and gave up one earned run on three hits.
The Golden Eagles started the scoring in game two as
Ryan Haggstrom (So., C/1B, Apple Valley, Minn./Accounting) hit a single to left field in the first to plate
Josh Brehmer (Sr., 2B/SS, Falcon Heights, Minn./Communications). However, Minnesota State would take over from there to win 14-1.
Brehmer led UMC, going 2-of-3 with a run scored.
Minnesota State was led by Peterson, who was 4-of-4 with four RBI's and two runs scored, while Todd Standish was 3-of-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to finish up the series with Minnesota State at 12 and 2 p.m. in Mankato, Minn. Sun., April 13.
