Golden Eagle Baseball Treks to Sioux Falls, S.D. for Four-Game Series Against Augustana

CROOKSTON, Minn. -  The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team will trek to Sioux Falls, S.D. to face-off with Augustana College (S.D.) Sat., March 29 at 2 and 4 p.m. and Sun., March 30 at 12 and 2 p.m. at Karras Park Home of Ronken Field.  

The Golden Eagles are 1-15 (0-4 NSIC) on the season with their lone win coming March 14 over Hillsdale College on the team's Spring Break trip to Clearwater, Fla. Minnesota Crookston has battled hard in several of their games as they coming off two late-inning losses to University of Sioux Falls with a 10-7 loss to the Cougars in nine-innings March 23 and an 8-7 13-inning loss March 24.

Minnesota Crookston has been led this season by the bat of Ryan Haggstrom (So., C/1B/P, Apple Valley, Minn./Accounting), who is batting .387 with 11 runs scored and nine RBI's. Haggstrom has already tied Matt Korte's team-high 11 runs scored from last season with 33 games still left in the 2014 season. In addition to Haggstrom, Jesse Jennings (Jr., OF, Robbinsdale, Minn./Criminal Justice) has also played well, especially of late. Jennings is batting .278 with four runs scored and two RBI's. The junior hit .438 last weekend with two runs scored. Marcus Campbell (So., OF/P, St. Croix Falls, Wis./Golf and Turf Management) has also been instrumental for UMC with a .268 average and five runs scored and seven RBI's.

On the mound, Minnesota Crookston's starting pitching has been led by Richie Navratil (Sr., P, Blansko, Czech Republic/Sports and Rec Management), who is 0-4 with a 6.41 ERA in 26.2 innings pitched. Navratil has struck out 12 batters this season. In relief, Ryan Paasch (Sr., P, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) has pitched strong with a 5.40 ERA in 10.0 innings pitched.

Augustana is 13-7 (3-1 NSIC). The Vikings took three of four from Northern State University last weekend and swept a double header against Winona state University March 26.

The Vikings have been let at the plate by Jack Goihl, who is batting .420 with 19 runs scored and 22 RBI's on the year. Goihl has three home runs and five doubles on the year. In addition to Goihl, Tony Viger is hitting .405 with 20 runs scored, 12 doubles, three home runs and 16 RBI's.

On the mound, Augustana has looked to Tyson Gau with a 2-2 mark and a 3.38 ERA in 26.2 innings pitched and six starts. Kye Winter comes in with a 2-0 mark and a 3.31 ERA in 16.1 innings pitched and three starts. In relief, closer Derek Quame has been dominant with an 0-1 mark and a miniscule 1.29 ERA in 14.0 innings pitched with five saves.
