SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team fell 67-50 to No. 18 Augustana College (S.D.) Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D. The loss snaps a two-game conference win streak for the Golden Eagles, the first since 2005 for the UMC program. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-5 (2-3 NSIC) with the loss. Augustana improves to 10-1 (4-1 NSIC) with the victory.
UMC was out-played in the first half, falling behind 34-18 to Augustana. However, the Golden Eagles would play toe-to-toe in the second half, as Augustana out-scored UMC by the tune of just 33-32 in the second half. However, this was not enough for the Golden Eagles to overcome the Vikings.
The Golden Eagles were led on the game by freshman
Jim Warmack (F/C, East Grand Forks, Minn./Management), who came off the bench for 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting and 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. In addition to Warmack,
Tyler West, Jr. (Sr., G/F, Portland, Ore./Communications) continued to be a major factor for the Golden Eagles, falling one rebound shy of his fourth double-double of the season. West tallied 10 points and nine rebounds on the game.
John Hughes (Jr., F, San Diego, Calif./Management) added eight points for the Golden Eagles.
Minnesota Crookston was just 16-of-55 on the game for 29.1 percent and 8-of-26 for 30.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles struggled from the charity stripe, connecting on just 10-of-18 for 55.6 percent.
Augustana had a balanced game on Saturday as Casey Schilling and Daniel Jansen each tallied 12 points on the game. Jordan Spencer added 11 points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Vikings. The Vikings would shoot 26-of-57 for 45.6 percent from the field and 5-of-17 for 29.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Minnesota Crookston will finish up their 2014 portion of their schedule as they host Bemidji State University Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium.
