WAYNE, Neb. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-14) to No. 8 Wayne State College (Neb.). The Golden Eagles fall to 11-16 (5-14 NSIC) on the season, while Wayne State improves to 23-5 (15-4 NSIC).
The Golden Eagles were led on the match by
Brittany Looker (Sr., OH, Rochester, Minn./Health Science) with 13 kills. Looker hit .220 on the match. In addition,
Stephanie Pearson (Jr., OH, Frankfort, Ill./Accounting) tallied seven kills on the match, while
Kassi Green (R-Fr., RS, Anoka, Minn./Early Childhood Education) and
Kelci Green (R-Fr., MH, Anoka, Minn./Biology) each added five kills apiece.
Sierra Trost (So., S, Ham Lake, Minn./Biology) added 19 assists as UMC had 37 kills and hit .235.
Defensively, Trost led the way with 13 digs, while
Mary Mikutowski (Sr., Lib., Stillwater, Minn./Health Science) each added 10 apiece. On the block,
Alyssa Muelken (Fr., MH, Savage, Minn./Undecided) and
Morgan VanGerpen (Sr., MH/RS, Overland Park, Kan./Elementary Education) each added three block assists.
Wayne State hit an impressive .398 on the match with 50 kills and just seven errors. Katie Hughes led the Wildcats with 16 kills and hit .382, while Alyssa Frauendorfer chipped in 14 kills and hit an amazing .824 with no errors on the match. At setter, Leisa McClintock led the way with 38 assists. Defensively, Hughes led the way with 15 digs, while Michaela Mestl added 12.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up the 2014 season Sat., Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. as they host Augustana College (S.D.).
