Golden Eagles Drop One in OT at St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD, Minn.- The Golden Eagle soccer team is down to their final regular season weekend and they opened up with a game at St. Cloud State University where UMC was knocked off, 2-1, in an overtime loss. The loss also shuts down the Golden Eagles' bid for a spot in the NSIC postseason tournament as the University of Minnesota Duluth defeated Bemidji State University, 2-0, extending their points lead to five.

The Golden Eagles came within one minute of the much needed win as sophomore midfielder, Kallie Gua's (Monticello, Minn./Early Childhood Education) game opening goal in the 43rd minute was not matched until the final minute of regulation when the Huskies Michelle Cornell (Waunakee, Wis.) scored on a header off a corner kick. Gau's second goal of the season was set up by fellow midfielder Ellie Brettschneider (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) who picked up her fourth assist of 2014.

The overtime period was short one as the Huskies found the back of the net in the third minute of bonus play. The loss sets the Golden Eagle's overall record at 6-6-5, 5-5-4 in NSIC play and the best they can finish is ninth in the conference, one spot out of the eight team championship tournament.

The Golden Eagles will close out their 2014 season Sunday afternoon when they host Duluth on the UMC campus at 1:00 pm.
