CROOKSTON, Minn.- The Golden Eagle soccer team (6-5-3, 5-4-2) will host a pair of tough opponents this weekend as they take on Upper Iowa University (9-4, 9-2) at 3:00 pm on Friday, then have a day to recover before facing Winona State University (13-1, 10-1) at noon on Sunday.
Â
The Peacocks will hit Crookston, on Friday, with an offense that has a pair of scorers in Aimee Wronski (Sr., Huntley, Ill.) Madie Edwards (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill.). The UMC team defense will be put to a test as UIU has outscored their opponents 26-9 in 2014. As the Peacocks duo has seven a piece, UMC's
Courtney Armborst (West St. Paul, Minn./Biology) has done them one better as she leads her squad with eight total goals. Forward,
Miranda Mosher (Fr., Watertown, Minn.) has stepped up her play as of late and she scored both of the Golden Eagle goals last weekend, upping her season total to four.
Â
Sunday's match will feature a Winona State team that is currently on an eight game win streak and has outscored their opponents 31-7 through 14 games. The Warriors currently sit in second place in the NSIC, while the Golden Eagles sit in ninth place, one spot out of the final playoff spot in the 2014 NSIC championship tournament. WSU's balanced offensive attack will put some pressure on UMC's sophomore keeper,
Lexie Gauger (Green Bay, Wisc.,/Criminal Justice) who earned a shutout in her last start.
