Well-Rounded Effort Guides Golden Eagles to 3-0 Win Over St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston avenged a 3-0 loss to St. Cloud State University earlier this season in non-conference play with a 3-0 (28-26, 25-18, 25-9) in a mid-week tilt in St. Cloud, Minn. The Golden Eagles snap a three-match losing streak with the win and improve to 9-10 (3-7 NSIC) with the win. The Huskies have now lost nine straight matches dating back to a Sept. 19 win over University of Sioux Falls.

St. Cloud State shut down NSIC kills leader Brittany Looker (Sr., OH, Rochester, Minn./Health Science) for the most part Tuesday, as she was held to three kills on the night. In wake of Looker being shut down UMC needed other hitters to step up and they did just that. Kassi Green (R-Fr., RS, Anoka, Minn./Elementary Education) did just that with eight kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Stephanie Pearson (Jr., OH, Frankfort, Ill./Accounting) added seven kills, as did Morgan VanGerpen (Sr., MH/RS, Overland Park, Kan./Early Childhood Education).

Sierra Trost (So., S, Ham Lake, Minn./Health Science) led the way with 16 assists while Kaycie Hagen (Fr., S, Savage, Minn./Health Science) added 11.

Defensively, UMC had a big night on the block led by Kelci Green (R-Fr., MH, Anoka, Minn./Biology) who had two solo blocks and six block assists. She teamed with her sister Kassi Green, who had five block assists on the night. Mary Mikutowski (Sr., Lib., Stillwater, Minn.) had 14 digs, followed by Looker's 12 and Pearson's 11 digs.

St. Cloud State was led by seven kills from Sophie Jaskulske and Macy Weller. Kaitlin Doughty added six kills. Erin Ohlemann led the way with 22 assists.

Defensively, Brianne Stamer led the way with 17 digs while Ohlemann added 14.

The Golden Eagles will look to build off their win as they return home for Homecoming weekend. UMC will take on Northern State University at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 and Minnesota State University Moorhead Oct. 18 at 4 p.m.
