Box Score BISMARCK, N.D.- The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team fell to University of Mary 74-56. The Golden Eagles hung with the Marauders in the second half, but were out-scored 37-24 in the first half as the Marauders came away with the victory. Minnesota Crookston drops their 12th-straight as they fall to 4-14 (1-13). U-Mary improves to 5-14 (3-11 NSIC) with Saturday's victory.
Minnesota Crookston was led on the game by a season-high 18 points in a start for
Giorgi Koguashvili (Jr., G, Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia/Agricultural Business). Koguashvili was 6-of-11 from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Koguashvili dished out three assists on the game.
Brandon Burns (Sr., F, Baton Rouge, La./Sports and Rec Management) added 17 points and five boards for the Golden Eagles.
Tim Lubke (Jr., G, St. Paul, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) chipped in six points off the bench on two threes.
The Golden Eagles shot 21-of-47 for 44.7 percent. They were 4-of-11 for 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Marauders controlled the glass on Saturday night as they out-rebounded Minnesota Crookston 41-25. Burns was the leading rebounder for Minnesota Crookston on the night with five. U-Mary was paced by eight boards apiece from Marc Musungayi and Bryan Jefferson.
The Marauders were led on the game by 14 points from Musungayi on 6-of-11 shooting. They had four players overall score in double figures as Jalen Jaspers tallied 13, while Germain Decoste and Devan Douglas added 10. U-Mary shot 30-of-59 for 50.8 percent from the field and were 6-of-14 for 42.9 percent from three-point range.
The Marauders got out to a quick 9-2 lead on the game led by dunks from Musungayi and Douglas. The Golden Eagles would close to within two points after a
John Hughes (So., F, Tualatin, Ore./Management) three-point play made it 13-11 at the 12:12 mark. The Golden Eagles would knot things up at 16-16 as
Kevin Larson (Jr., G, New Ulm, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) nailed a three at the 10:26 mark.
The Golden Eagles would remain within striking distance for next couple of minutes until the Marauders used an 8-0 run led by four points from Isaac Lindquist to widen the gap to 10 at 29-19 with 4:33 left in the half. Minnesota Crookston would get to within eight following a
Tyler West, Jr. (Jr., F, Portland, Ore./Communications) lay-up with 2:28 left, but the Marauders would go on a 5-0 run going into the break to lead 37-24 over the Golden Eagles.
UMC would come out of the locker room strong and cut the lead back down to eight on a Burns jumper at the 17:37 mark but lay-ups from Douglas and Jaspers would push the Marauder advantage back out to 12. The Golden Eagles would get to within single-digits just twice more as the Marauders closed out their victory. U-Mary would finish the game on an 11-4 run to take the game 74-56.
Minnesota Crookston will continue their four-game road swing as they head to Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Sioux Falls next weekend.
