CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team is set to host Minot State University Wed., March 1 at the UMC Baseball Field.
The Golden Eagles are 1-36 (1-22 NSIC) after ending a 34-game losing streak Saturday with a 4-3 win over University of Minnesota Duluth. The Golden Eagles won a game-winning single in the sixth inning as
Matt Korte (Jr., IF/OF/P, St. Cloud, Minn.) would come across the plate. The Golden Eagles would go to extra innings including a 12-inning thriller with UMD in addition to the victory on the weekend.
Josh Brehmer (Jr., 2B/SS, Roseville, Minn.) has been tearing things up as of late as he has improved his batting average to .291 this season. He has improved his batting average by 65 points since April 20. He has hit .441 during that time with four runs scored. Brehmer was 2-for-4 in UMC's 4-3 win over Minnesota Duluth and was 3-for-6 in a 12-inning game Saturday.
On the mound, The Golden Eagles got great outings from Korte and
J.C. Crane (Sr., C/P/OF, Tucson, Ariz.) on the weekend. Korte pitched seven innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits in UMC's win over UMD. Crane went eight innings, pitching a shutout giving up eight hits.
Minot State comes in with a 10-22 mark on the season and a 2-16 NSIC record. The Beavers have been led this season by Mitch Olson, who is batting .398 with 19 runs scored, 13 doubles and 23 RBI's on the year. Connor Moughtin is hitting .371 with 15 runs scored and 16 RBI's. On the mound, Minot State is led by Cole Stober, who is 1-4 with a 4.70 ERA in 38-and-one-third innings.
