CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team will open up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play Sun., March 24 at 9:15 and 11:15 p.m. and Mon., March 25 at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome against No. 11 Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Golden Eagles come into the game with an 0-13 mark and are looking for their first victory of the season. Minnesota State is 11-4 overall this season.
The Golden Eagles have been led at the plate by
Kameron Crandall (R-Fr., IF/P, Zimmerman, Minn.), who is hitting .314 with seven runs batted in and two runs scored. He is joined by
Tony Madsen (Jr., IF, Mounds View, Minn.), who is hitting .308 and leadoff hitter
Josh Brehmer (Jr., 2B/SS, Roseville, Minn.), who is batting .302 so far this year.
On the mound, UMC has been paced by freshman
Ryan Haggstrom (C/1B/OF/P, Apple Valley, Minn.), who is 0-0 with a 2.35 earned runs average in seven-and-two-thirds innings pitched.
J.C. Crane (Sr., C/OF/P, Tucson, Ariz.) has also been strong with an 0-1 mark and a 5.00 ERA in nine innings pitched this year.
The Golden Eagles last appeared on the diamond during five games on a trip to Florida in which they fell in three games to Mansfield University, a game against Upper Iowa University and a game against Florida Christian College.
Minnesota State played games in Winter Haven, Fla. During their Spring Break trip going 5-1 during the trip with their only loss coming March 15 to Ashland University. The Mavericks defeated Ashland twice, Northwood University once and Lewis University once.
The Mavericks are led at the plate by Nolan Johnson, who is hitting .311 with six runs scored, 10 runs batted in and a .578 slugging percentage. Stetson Olson is batting .318 with seven runs scored and seven runs batted in while Parker Sullivan is hitting .310 with 10 runs scored and four RBI's.
Minnesota State is led on the bump by Harvey Martin, who is 1-0 with a 0.86 ERA in 21 innings pitched. Nick Sutherland joins Martin with a 1-1 mark and a 1.69 ERA in 16 innings pitched.
