• Give the Ball to Brit

    The University of Minnesota, Crookston women's basketball team put the ball in the hands of Brittani Wiese last weekend and it played dividends as the Golden Eagles picked up their first NSIC sweep of the season with wins over University of Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State University.
    Wiese tallied 18 points against Sioux Falls and 24 points versus Southwest Minnesota State. 18 of Wiese's points against the Mustangs in an overtime victory came after half-time. Wiese tallied nine points in five minutes of overtime to give SMSU the win.

•Wiese Named NSIC Player of the week
    Brittani Wiese averaged 21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in UMC's sweep last weekend in order to earn NSIC Player of the Week honors. The accolade is the first of the season for any Golden Eagle player and the second of Wiese's stellar career at UMC.

•Tyson Sets Career Rebounding Record
   
Senior Center Laurie Tyson has been a force on the boards for her four seasons at UMC. Tyson's 10 rebounds against MSU Moorhead Jan. 4 moved her into a tie with Kari Score for the rebounding record which she officially broke with her first rebound of the game against Northern State Jan. 5. Tyson is currently averaging 7.2 rebounds per game during her senior campaign. Tyson has accumulated 636 rebounds in her four seasons as a Golden Eagle.

•Sweep
  
  The Golden Eagles ended a seven-game skid last weekend with two victories over Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State. UMC will look to build on the strong weekend as they take on two difficult opponents in two of the NSIC South's toughest teams in Concordia University, St. Paul and Minnesota State University, Mankato.

•Moving up the Charts
    Brittani Wiese continues to move up the all-time scoring charts. Wiese is fourth all-time on the career scoring charts with 1,140 points. She needs 144 points to move into third place all-time which is currently occupied by Kari Score.

The Scoop

    The University of Minnesota, Crookston will take on the No. 1 team in the NSIC South, Concordia University, St. Paul Friday and then the No. 2 team in the South, Minnesota State University, Mankato Saturday. The road games will start a four-game road swing which will continue next weekend with games against University of Mary and Minot State University.

Previewing the Golden Eagles
        The University of Minnesota, Crookston women's basketball team comes into the weekend with a 7-13 (4-12 NSIC) mark after picking up two victories against University of Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State University last weekend. The wins snapped a seven-game losing streak. The Golden Eagles are led by reigning NSIC Player of the Week Brittani Wiese (Sr., G, Albertville, Minn.), who is averaging 12.3 points per game. She is joined by Katrina Moenkedick (Fr., F, Perham, Minn.), who is averaging 9.7 points per game while sharp-shooter Ashley Martell (So., G, Somerset, Wis.) is averaging 9.2 points per game. UMC is shooting 38.2 percent fro mthe field and 30.3 percent from beyond the three. The Golden Eagles are being out-rebounded 40.8 to 38.2 this season. UMC is led on the boards by the school's career rebounding leader Laurie Tyson (Sr., C, Rosemount, Minn.), who comes in averaging 7.2 boards per game. UMC found a lot of success last weekend after switching up the starting line-up, moving Jaya Perkins (R-Fr., G, Lakeville, Minn.) back into the starting five. Perkins had nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in the victory over the Cougars.
   
Previewing The Golden Bears
    Women

    Concordia University, St. Paul has been a bit of surprise this season. The Golden Bears were picked to finish seventh in the NSIC Preseason Poll and currently boast the NSIC's best record of 15-5 (13-3 NSIC).
Concordia has been led this season by 6-2 sophomore forward Anika Whiting, who is averaging 18.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Whiting is joined by two other players averaging double figures. 5-11 guard Carissa Wolyniec comes in averaging 10.7 points per game and is leading the team in three-point percentage shooting at a 38.9 percent clip. Rachel Hansen also comes in averaging double figures with 10.4 points per game. She leads the NSIC in assists averaging 5.7 helpers per game. The Golden Bears are shooting 41.5 percent on the season and 31.4 percent from three. Concordia is out-rebounding their foes 40.2 to 39.1.

Previewing The Mavericks
    Women

    Minnesota State University, Mankato has a 16-4 (12-4 NSIC) mark on the year and is 9-0 at the Taylor Center this season. The Mavericks are currently tied for second in the NSIC South. Minnesota State is led by 6-0 junior forward Ali Wilkinson, who is averaging 18.3 points per game. She is joined by Aubrey Davis' 11.4 points per game and Karlee Gengenbacher's 10.0 points per game. Minnesota State is shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from trey led by Wilkinson's 43.5 percent. The Mavericks are out-rebounding opponents 37.8 to 37.3 paced by Wilkinson's 8.5 rebounds per game.
