Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. - Jake Schalow's 30 points, including seven three-pointers led Bemidji State University to a decisive 103-61 win over University of Minnesota Crookston Friday night at BSU Gymnasium. The Beavers would finish the game shooting 68.5 percent from the field and 60.9 percent from trey including 14 threes as a team to defeat UMC. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-6 (1-5 NSIC) while Bemidji State improves to 7-3 (4-2 NSIC) with the victory. Bemidji State sweeps the season series against UMC 2-0 after Friday's victory.
The Golden Eagles were led on the game by 17 points from
Ashton Harrell (Sr., G, Houston, Texas/Sports and Rec Management). Harrell was 6-of-12 from the field, with two treys and was 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. After being off recently, Derrick Redd (So., G, Menifee, Calif./Sports and Rec Management) had a bounce-back game for the Golden Eagles with 13 points off of the bench.
Tim Lubke (Jr., G, St. Paul, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) and
Brandon Burns (Sr., F, Baton Rouge, La./Sports and Rec Management) each had eight points.
The Golden Eagles finished the game shooting 24-of-61 for 39.3 percent from the field and were 8-of-20 for 40 percent from three led by two treys from Lubke and two from Harrell.
Minnesota Crookston was paced by Schalow's 30 points, including 23 in the first half. The senior sharp shooter was 7-of-8 from three and 10-of-13 from the field for the Beavers. Schalow was just two three-points away from tying the school record at BSU for nine three pointers set back in 1996. Brock Lutes added 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting with two treys and Zach Noreen had 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting with two treys.
Bemidji State put on a lights out shooting display Friday. The Beavers finished the game shooting an amazing 37-of-54 for 68.5 percent and were 14-of-23 from beyond the arc for 60.9 percent. In addition, they were 15-of-16 for 93.8 percent from the charity stripe.
The Beavers also out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 29-24 led by nine boards from Noreen while Harrell led all Golden Eagles on the boards with six.
Minnesota Crookston opened up the first half playing toe-to-toe with Bemidji State and was down just one (21-20) at the 9:16 mark after a Burns lay-in. From there though, BSU would go on an 11-2 run following a Maxie Rosenbloom lay-in with 4:17 remaining. After UMC cut the advantage to 12 (37-28) following a
John Hughes (So., F, Tualatin, Ore./Management) three-pointer, BSU would go on another run, this time 11-3 led by nine points from Schalow, including two threes and a converted three-point play from the charity stripe.
Bemidji State would build on the lead, doing much of what they did in the first half to get out to pick up a 42-point win (103-61) over the Golden Eagles.
Minnesota Crookston will return to action Jan. 3 against Upper Iowa University at 6 p.m. They will then play Winona State University Jan .4 at 6 p.m.
