Box Score GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston was down just eight at the half to NCAA Division I University of North Dakota but ultimately fell 85-66 Sat., Nov. 2 at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks, N.D. in an exhibition tilt. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 in exhibition games on the season while North Dakota starts out the exhibition season with a 1-0 record.
The Golden Eagles continue their second half woes from Wednesday's North Dakota State University exhibition. UMC shot 12-of-28 for 42.9 percent in the first half but fell off in the second half, hitting on just 11-of-35 attempts for 31.4 percent to finish the game shooting 36.5 percent. UMC was 7-of-24 for 29.2 percent. UMC continues to struggle on the boards as they were out-rebounded 53-26 on the day by UND.
UMC was led on the game by sophomore forward
Katrina Moenkedick (So., Perham, Minn./Early Childhood Education) who looks poised for another solid season after earning NSIC All-Freshman honors last season.
Alexa Thielman (So., G, Buffalo, Minn./Health Science) continued a strong exhibition season as she had 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc.
Ebony Livingston (Jr., G, Minneapolis, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) added nine points while
Ashley Martell (Jr., G, Somerset, Wis./Health Science) added eight points, as did
Cienna Walker (Jr., G, Ajax, Ontario/Marketing). Freshman point guard
Selina Barnes (Fr., G, Colorado Springs, Colo./Health Science) continued her gritty play from the NDSU game with four points, six rebounds and eight assists.
North Dakota shot 34-of-68 from the field for 50 percent and were 6-of-15 for 40 percent from behind the three-point line. UND had five players in double-figures led by 12 points from Josie Dillon off the bench as she was 5-of-9 and 2-of-5 from behind the three-point line. Madi Buck had a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. Megan Lauck, Siri Surck and Emily Evers all had 11 points, as well. Leah Szabla had six points and 10 assists on the game while Mia Loyd had eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles will commence regular season play Nov. 12 against Valley City State University at 6 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn.
