Golden Eagle Baseball Team Closes Out Home Portion of Schedule This Week

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team closes out the home portion of their schedule this week with six Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) games. The Golden Eagles will face Bemidji State University (BSU) in an NSIC doubleheader on Wednesday, April 18 starting at 4 p.m. at Jim Karn Field in Crookston, Minn. U of M, Crookston returns to the UMC Baseball field for a four-game NSIC series with the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22. Doubleheaders begin at 1:30 p.m. and 12 p.m. respectively. The Golden Eagles will finish a halted game with Mayville State University on Thursday, April 19 at 4 p.m. in Mayville, N.D. The game was halted with the Golden Eagles leading 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning back on March 5 due to the Metrodome's four hour thirty minute time limit.

U of M, Crookston has an overall record of 8-23 and NSIC record of 3-15 after dropping a four game series to Winona State University this past weekend. The Warriors won by scores of 13-2, 17-9, 7-6 and 17-4 in seven innings. The Golden Eagles are led by Josh Brehmer (So, 2B, Roseville, Minn.) who is hitting .384 (43-112) with 16 runs batted in (RBI). Matt Korte (So, RHP/3B/OF, St. Cloud, Minn.) is hitting .357 (20-56). Charlie Pelzer (So, 2B, Roseville, Minn.) is hitting .347 (34-98) with 12 RBI. Nick Kelzer (So, RHP, Delano, Minn.) is 2-2 on the mound with a 5.02 earned run average (ERA) and 18 strikeouts.

Golden Eagles vs. Bemidji State University        Wednesday, April 18 (2)        4 p.m.

The Beavers have an overall record of 15-17 and NSIC record of 8-10 after going 1-3 against Augustana College this past weekend. BSU split on Saturday losing 7-2 and winning 7-5 before getting swept on Sunday by scores of 10-6 and 12-1 in seven innings. The Beavers are led by Jaryd Marks who is hitting .327 (36-110) with 23 RBI. Logan Kallis is hitting .305 (29-95) with 23 RBI. Phil Bray is 7-2 on the mound with a 3.38 ERA and 37 strikeouts.

Golden Eagles vs. University of Minnesota Duluth    Saturday, April 21 (2)        1:30 p.m.
                                
                                                                 Sunday, April 22 (2)            12 p.m.

The Bulldogs have an overall record of 12-19 and NSIC record of 5-12 after taking three games from Upper Iowa University this past weekend. UMD won by scores of 10-1, 8-2 and 7-5. The 7-5 win was called after five innings due to rain and the final game of the series was cancelled. The Bulldogs are led by Marcus Riewer who is hitting .330 (38-115) with nine RBI. Anders Enberg is hitting .330 (33-100) with 20 RBI. Mike Darley is hitting .324 (33-102) with 15 RBI. Jordan Smith is 3-2 with a 3.03 ERA and 23 strikeouts.
