Box Score (Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston rallied with three runs in the top half of the seventh inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and rode a solid seven innings from
Brooks Miller (Fr, RHP, Moorhead, Minn.) as the Golden Eagles defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) 3-2 in a non-conference baseball game at the Russ Matt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla.
After a scoreless first inning, the Tritons got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the second when Drew Standefer and Angel Recci delivered back to back run batted in (RBI) singles.
U of M, Crookston answered in the sixth with three runs.
Josh Brehmer (So, IF, Roseville, Minn.) led off with a single to left center.
J.C. Crane (Jr, C, Tucson, Ariz.) followed with a hard shot to shortstop that resulted in a double and advanced Brehmer to third. After a strikeout by
Charlie Pelzer (So, SS, Roseville, Minn.),
P.J. Zwach (Sr, 3B, St. Paul, Minn.) doubled to right center plating Brehmer and Crane and advanced to third on the throw home.
Mitch Allore (Sr, DH, North Mankato, Minn.) singled to right center scoring Zwach and closing out the scoring.
Miller threw seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits while striking two and walking one to pick up his first career victory.
Ryan Paasch (So, RHP, Sauk Rapids, Minn.) threw the eighth allowing no runs on no hits and walking one.
Joe Miller (Fr, RHP, Winona, Minn.) closed out the game throwing the ninth allowing no runs on no hits while striking out two and walking one to get his first career save.
Matt Korte (So, LF, St. Cloud, Minn.) added two hits for U of M, Crookston who had their top eight hitters in the lineup record hits.
UMSL's Austin Schuler threw all nine innings allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out ten and walking two to get the loss. Trevor Nathanson went 2-4 at the plate.
The Golden Eagles improve to 3-3. UMSL falls to 2-4. U of M, Crookston returns to action on Saturday, March 10 when they play Wheeling Jesuit University at the Russ Matt Invitational in Auburndale, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 8 a.m.
