(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team travels to Florida for seven games when they take part in the Russ Matt Invitational in Auburndale and Winter Haven, Fla. (March 9-10, 13-14) and the Winning Inning Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. (March 13).
U of M, Crookston has an overall record of 2-3 after dropping a 14-5 non-conference game to Mayville State University on Monday at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. Game two was halted with the Golden Eagles leading 3-1 going into the bottom half of the seventh inning due to the Metrodome's four hour thirty minute time limit. Both squads hope to complete the game at a later date.
U of M, Crookston is led by
Mitch Allore (Sr, 1B, North Mankato, Minn.) who is hitting .462 (6-13).
Charlie Pelzer (So, SS, Roseville, Minn.) is hitting .400 (6-15) with three runs batted in (RBI).
Josh Brehmer (So, IF, Roseville, Minn.) is hitting .386 (7-19) with four RBI.
J.C. Crane (Jr, C, Tucson, Ariz.) is hitting .300 (3-10).
Nick Kelzer is 0-1 with a 1.80 earned run average (ERA) and four strikeouts.
Golden Eagles vs. University of Missouri St. Louis Friday, March 9 9 a.m. (CST)
The Tritons have an overall record of 2-2 after splitting a four game series with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Craig Nolan (4-12), Charlie Mohr (4-12) and Spencer Ammons (3-9) are all hitting .333. Mohr also has three RBI. Adam Radick and Jeremy Butler are each 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA. Radick has eight strike outs and Butler has five.
Golden Eagles vs. Wheeling Jesuit University Saturday, March 10 8 a.m. (CST)
The Cardinals have an overall record of 3-3 after dropping a 10-5 decision to the University of Findlay and defeating them 11-5 in the nightcap of a doubleheader at the Russ Matt Invitational. They are led by Robbie Davia who is hitting .474 (9-19). Patrick Ammar is hitting .353 (6-12) with three RBI. Jordan Medley is hitting .333 (8-24) with two RBI. Jordan Kraus is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA having thrown 10.1 innings and recording eight strikeouts.
Golden Eagles vs. East Stroudsburg University (2) Sunday, March 11 12 p.m. (CST)
The Warriors have an overall record of 7-2 after splitting a four-game series with Winston-Salem State University on February 25-26. Chris Knott leads East Stroudsburg hitting .545 (18-33) with two homeruns 13 RBI and nine runs scored. Jason Kelmer is hitting .448 (13-29) with seven RBI and eight runs scored. Eric Boyer is hitting .355 (11-31) with nine RBI and 12 runs scored. Keenan Stare and Keith Moyer each have a 0.79 ERA. Stare is 3-0 with 14 strikeouts while Moyer is 2-0 with ten strikeouts. The games will be played at historic Jack Russell Stadium which is the former spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Golden Eagles vs. Northwood University Tuesday, March 13 12:30 p.m. (CST)
The Timberwolves finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 18-23. They will be playing their first games of the 2012 season at the Russ Matt Invitational. Jake Labrecque hit .297 (38-128) with 26 RBI and 17 runs scored. Mark Heard was 5-3 on the mound with a 3.11 ERA. He had 48 strikeouts.
Golden Eagles vs. Kentucky Wesleyan University Tuesday, March 13 4 p.m. (CST)
The Panthers have an overall record of 3-4 after going 2-1 against Hillsdale University this past weekend. They are led by Jordan White who is hitting .308 (8-26) with four RBI and eight doubles. Tim Steed is 2-0 on the mound with a 1.38 ERA and 12 strikeouts.
Golden Eagles vs. University of Charleston Wednesday, March 14 2:30 p.m. (CST)
The Golden Eagles have an overall record of 1-2 having gone 1-2 against California University of Pennsylvania on February 26-27. Ryan Foster is hitting .750 (6-8) with two RBI and two doubles. Andrew Stichter is hitting .600 (6-10). Igor Molina is hitting .462 (6-13) with three RBI and one homerun. Lucas Catlett is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.
