Golden Eagle Baseball Team Earns Doubleheader Split With Wolves

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team split a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader with Northern State University (NSU) today at the UMC Baseball Field. The Wolves took game one 4-2. The Golden Eagles took the nightcap 8-6. NSU now has an overall record of 6-13 and NSIC record of 1-5. U of M, Crookston improves to 7-11 overall and 2-4 in the NSIC. The two teams meet again tomorrow in a doubleheader at the UMC Baseball Field. First-pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Game One Recap

The Golden Eagles opened up a 2-0 lead after two innings but the Wolves responded with three runs in the top of the third on their way to a 4-2 victory. Nathan Nietfield threw a complete game allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking three to get his second win of the season. Jesse Gonzalez went 2-2 with one run batted in (RBI). Brent Lawrence added a hit and two RBI. Ben Lazzari (Sr, RHP, Shakopee, Minn.) threw seven innings allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking one while taking the loss. Matt Korte (So, LF, St. Cloud, Minn.) had two hits for the Golden Eagles.

Game Two Recap

U of M, Crookston took a 6-3 lead after four innings before the Wolves countered with three in the top half of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6. The Golden Eagles responded with two in the bottom of the seventh and held on for the 8-6 victory. Nick Kelzer (So, RHP, Delano, Minn.) threw 6.1 innings allowing six runs (three earned) on ten hits while striking out two and walking one. Brooks Miller (Fr, RHP, Moorhead, Minn.) appeared in relief allowing no runs on one hit to get his second win. Joe Miller (Fr, RHP, Winona, Minn.) threw final two innings allowing no runs on no hits while striking out one to get his second save. Korte, Charlie Pelzer (So, SS, Roseville, Minn.), Jordan Flick (Jr, RF, Dassel, Minn.) and Jordan Osmundson (Fr, CF, East Grand Forks, Minn.) each had two hits. Flick added two RBI. Josh Brehmer (So, 2B, Roseville, Minn.) also added three RBI. Trent Bestland appeared in relief and took the loss for the Wolves allowing two runs (both unearned) on four hits while striking out three and walking three. Gonzalez had three hits for NSU.
