Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston opened up a 6-0 lead and rode a solid pitching performance from Nick Kelzer (So, RHP, Delano, Minn.) to defeat Upper Iowa University (UIU) 6-2 in the nightcap of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader today in Fayette, Iowa. It was the first NSIC victory of the season for the Golden Eagles. The Peacocks took game one 9-0.

U of M, Crookston improves to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in the NSIC. UIU falls to 7-10 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to NSIC action on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1 when they host Northern State University in their first home series of the season. Doubleheaders begin at 12 p.m. at the UMC Baseball Field.

Game One Recap

The Peacocks opened up a 5-0 lead after two innings and went on to win 9-0. Mario Madera threw seven innings of shutout ball allowing seven hits while striking out four. Tyler Adams went 2-2 with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Andrew Kraus went 2-3 with two RBI. Mike Henrichs went 2-3 with two runs scored. Patrick Arntson hit a solo homerun.

The Golden Eagles were led by Josh Brehmer (So, 2B, Roseville, Minn.) who went 3-3. Jordan Flick (Jr, RHP, Dassel, Minn.) threw 3.1 innings allowing eight runs on eight hits to take the loss. He struck out two and walked two.

Game Two Recap

U of M, Crookston scored two runs in the top of the third and four in the top of the fifth and held on for the 6-2 victory.  Kelzer threw seven innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out one to get his first collegiate victory. Joe Miller (Fr, RHP, Winona, Minn.) threw the final two innings allowing no runs on two hits while striking out one. Jordan Osmundson (Fr, OF, East Grand Forks, Minn.) went 4-5 with one RBI. Charlie Pelzer (So, SS, Roseville, Minn.) went 3-5 with one RBI and one run scored. J.C. Crane (Jr, C, Tucson, Ariz.) went 2-2 with one RBI and two runs scored. Mitch Allore (Sr, DH, North Mankato, Minn.) went 2-5 with two RBI.

Matt Corbitt threw four innings allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out three and walking three to take the loss. He also went 2-4.
