BSU defeated MSU Moorhead in the NSIC opener Dec. 2 75-68, before losing 82-66 to UMC Dec. 3 on the road.
Minnesota Duluth- 13-7, 10-6 NSIC) In a rare one-game weekend in the NSIC for the University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball team, the Bulldogs broke out the brooms against their travel partner Bemidji State, sweeping the season series from the Beavers with a decisive 60-39 victory on Saturday (Feb. 4). Katrina Newman posted her third double-double of the 2011-12 campaign, scoring a game-high 16 points while corralling a game-high 13 rebounds. This marks the second consecutive game where the Barnum, Minn., native has posted a double-double and her defense helped the Bulldogs hold an opponent to less than 40 points or the first time since December 18, 2004 when the Bulldogs beat Winona State 72-37. Thanks to a stifling brand of defense, the Bulldogs limited the Beavers to a 25 percent (14-56) outing from the field. Also looking to reverse the free-throw shooting hex that has plagued them all season, the Bulldogs converted on a season-high 93.8 percent (15-16) of their chances at the foul line.
