Box Score (Crookston, Minn.) The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team returned to Lysaker Gymnasium this evening to take on the Northern State University (NSU) Wolves in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action. After a disappointing result against the University of Mary on Friday night, U of M, Crookston rebounded in outstanding fashion defeating NSU 88-73 to improve to 7-13 overall and 3-13 in the NSIC.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead to start off the game. After seeing the Wolves chip away at their lead and reaching a score of 11-7, U of M, Crookston went on a 15-3 point run to jump out and lead by as many as 16 points in the first half. Despite being out-rebounded 17-11, outshot from the field 50%-36% and getting into an early 16 point deficit, NSU bounced back and found themselves only trailing by three points with a score of 31-28 to end the first half.
A one-handed jam by U of M, Crookston's
Jacolby Anderson (6-2, Sr, G, Lancaster, Texas) energized and expanded the Golden Eagles second half lead to 13 points with 13:58 left in the game. Despite the Wolves putting up a fight in the second half, U of M, Crookston proved to be the superior team during today's matchup and lead by as many as 20 points in the second half. In the game the Golden Eagles out-rebounded the wolves 35-23 and were much better from beyond the arc shooting nearly 61.5% (8-13) compared to the NSU's 25% (5-20).
U of M, Crookston led this evening by
Akeem Cubie (6-6, Sr, F, Minneapolis, Minn.) who recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. He was 8-13 from the field and finished 2-4 from beyond the arc. Anderson and Alan Sharp Jr. (6-1, Jr, G, Flint, Mich.) followed Cubie with Anderson recording 21 points and going 4-5 from beyond the arc and Sharp recording 15 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Northern State University was led by Collin Pryor who recorded 19 points and seven rebounds. Dustin Tetzlaff and Alex Thomas also put up solid numbers with Tetzlaff recording 12 points and two rebounds and Robinson putting up 15 points and six rebounds.
Northern State University falls to 12-9 overall and 8-9 in NSIC play.
The Golden Eagles return to the court Friday, February 10 at 8 pm when they travel to Bemidji State University for an NSIC contest.
