Box Score (Crookston, Minn.) The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team returned to Lysaker Gymnasium this evening to take on the University of Mary (U-Mary) in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match-up. Both teams came out trading baskets to make for a very close first half. Despite having an obvious height advantage, the Golden Eagles were out rebounded 19-12 and found themselves trailing 35-27 at half.
U of M, Crookston quickly rallied in the second half to come back to within three points. However, the Marauders fought back and maintained their first-half lead. U-Mary played the better game down low and out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 40-26 and outscored them 34-16 in the paint. The Marauders took advantage of these two aspects of the game to outscore the Golden Eagles 41-25 in the second half and win the NSIC matchup with a score of 76-52.
U of M, Crookston was led this evening by
Akeem Cubie (6-6, Sr, F, Minneapolis, Minn.) who tallied 17 points (6-11) and five rebounds.
Broderick Schmidt (6-10, Jr, F, Marion, SD) and
Jacolby Anderson (6-2, Sr., G, Lancaster, Texas) scored 11 points (4-13) and nine points (4-6) respectively. Schmidt also pulled down nine rebounds.
U-Mary was led by Damon Smith who recorded a double-double with 23 points (9-13) and 11 rebounds. Darius Robinson and Josh Turner put up solid numbers with Robinson putting up 13 points (5-12) and going 3-5 from beyond the arc and Turner recording 12 points (4-10) and three rebounds.
U of M, Crookston falls to 6-13 on the season and 2-13 in NSIC play. The Marauders move to 5-15 overall and 4-12 in the NSIC.
The Golden Eagles return to the court Saturday at 6 pm when they take on Northern State University in an NSIC contest.
