Box Score (Crookston, Minn.) The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team returned to Lysaker Gymnasium this evening to take on the Wayne State College Wildcats. The Golden Eagles flew out of the gate playing flawlessly and going on a 5-0 run in the first 3:55 of the game. Aggressive defense played by both teams kept the game close and allowed the Wildcats to claw back to find themselves leading at half by a score of 19-15.
U of M, Crookston quickly rallied to start the second half and came back to lead by two points just three minutes into the second half. Even with the quick second half comeback, the Golden Eagles struggled from the charity stripe shooting a dismal 30.8% and found themselves trailing by five points with 7:39 left in the game. Shooting percentage from the free-throw line and turnovers determined this Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match-up. The Wildcats took advantage of these two aspects of the game and outshot the Golden Eagles by nearly 48% to win by a final score of 53-44
U of M, Crookston (7-18, 3-18 NSIC) was led this evening by
Akeem Cubie (6-6, Sr, F, Minneapolis, Minn.) who tallied 18 points highlighted by a two-handed put-back slam dunk and seven rebounds. He was 7-17 from the field and 3-6 from beyond the arc.
Jacolby Anderson (6-2, Sr, G, Lancaster, Texas) followed Cubie recording 13 points (5-12) and dishing out three assists.
Wayne State College (9-16, 8-13 NSIC) was led by Amry Shelby who recorded 24 points. He was 7-15 from the field and 3-6 from beyond the arc. Derrell Williams also put up solid numbers with eight points (6-9 from the free-throw line) and six rebounds.
The Golden Eagles return to NSIC action on Saturday at 6 p.m. when they take on Augustana College.
