Box Score CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota, Crookston had an opportunity for a last second shot as
Almir Krdzalic (Sr., G, Sioux Falls, S.D.) attempted a lay-up with seconds left but the attempt and follow-ups would not go as the Golden Eagles fell 52-51 to the University of Mary Saturday at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles fall to 3-6 (0-5 NSIC) while U-Mary improves to 3-6 (2-3 NSIC).
The Golden Eagles were led by
Tim Lubke (So., G, St. Paul, Minn.), who came off the bench to drain 5-of-6 three-point attempts and finish with 15 points on the night. Krdzalic wrapped up a solid weekend with 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting while

U-Mary was led by forward Alex Dorr, who went 7-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range to finish with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Marauders would finish the night shooting 21-of-42 for 50.0 percent from the field and 8-of-18 from beyond the arc for 44.4 percent. Jalen Jaspers chipped in 10 points for U-Mary.
The Golden Eagles went to the locker room with a narrow 25
-23 advantage after going on a late run. UMC was down 23-21 with 1:25 remaining in the half after Dorr hit a three-pointer. The Golden Eagles were then sparked off the bench by
Derrick Redd (R-Fr., G, Menifee, Calif.) who hit free-throw shots and then concluded the half with a jumper from the wing to give UMC the advantage over their foes from Bismarck, N.D. going into the break. The Golden Eagles shot 10-of-24 for 41.7 percent in the first half and were 3-of-7 for 42.9 percent from three-point range. Krdzalic paced UMC in the opening frame with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting while Burns chipped in five. The Marauders were led by Dorr, a Division I transfer from Iowa State University, who tallied nine points and six rebounds in the first half.
The two teams went back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes of the second half until the Marauders were able to get up by as many as eight points at the 8:04 mark following a 7-0 run that saw two converted lay-ups from Noah Stewart and Dorr and a made trey from Josh Turner. Lubke almost single-handedly helped will the Golden Eagles back into the fray as he hit four three-pointers for 12 points over the next five minutes which made the score 50-46 at the 4:28 mark.
The Marauders extended their lead back out to six with a Dorr jumper but Krdzalic followed Lubke's lead and hit a trey at the 2:48 mark to cut it to a three-point deficit (52-49) with 2:48 remaining. Burns would hit a lay-up with 58 seconds remaining to cut it a one-point deficit (52-51). On the U-Mary side of the court, Jaspers attempted a jumper with 28 seconds left but Burns secured a rebound and Jeff Oseth signaled for a timeout to work up a final play for the Golden Eagles. Mike Johnson committed a foul at the nine second mark to break up UMC's original plan. Following the foul, the in-bounds pass went to Krdzalic, who drove the lane and attempted a lay-up that went errant. Krdzalic got the rebound and attempted another shot, as did Sparkman, but both would miss the mark as U-Mary would hang on for the 52-51 win over the Golden Eagles.
UMC will return to action Jan. 4 and 5 with road tilts with Minnesota State University, Moorhead and Northern State University.
