Quick Hits

Friendly Confines
After playing their first seven games on the road this season, the University of Minnesota, Crookston women's basketball team will host their first home games this season as the Beavers of Minot State and the Marauders of U-Mary come to Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles were 3-9 at home last season and will look to improve on that record as they start their home slate this weekend.

Seeking Conference Win No. 1
After losing their first three NSIC games, the Golden Eagles will be seeking their first conference victory or hopefully victories as they take on Minot State and University of Mary this weekend at home.

Wiese Approaching 1,000 Point Club
2011-12 All-NSIC Second Team pick Brittani Wiese has had a great first three years at UMC despite missing the end of last season due to a knee injury. The senior guard leads team in scoring averaging 13.1 points per game. Wiese currently has 986 points in her career needing only 14 to become the seventh member of the 1,000 point scoring club at UMC joining all-time scoring leader Jamie Zelinsky, Karna Plaine, Kari Score, Steph Mayclin, Jess Forsline and Bri Zabel.

Tyson Closing in on Rebound Record
Senior Center Laurie Tyson has been a force on the boards for her four seasons at UMC. Tyson has 547 rebounds in her career and needs just 25 to surpass Kari Score's school-record of 572 boards.

Zelinsky Returns Home
University of Minnesota, Crookston all-time leading scorer Jamie Zelinsky will be making her return to Lysaker Gymnasium Saturday, but this time as an assistant coach as she is a first-year graduate assistant for the University of Mary women's basketball team.

The Scoop
The University of Minnesota, Crookston women's basketball team will host Minot State University and University of Mary Friday and Saturday in the conference home opening weekend for the Golden Eagles. Friday is the first home game of the season for UMC, who has played the first seven games of the season away from the friendly confines of Lysaker Gymnasium.

Previewing the Golden Eagles
The UMC women's basketball team was swept last weekend in road excursions at NSIC foes University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University. The big story line this weekend will be if senior guard Brittani Wiese can become the seventh member of the 1,000 point club. Wiese, who leads the team averaging 13.1 points per game, need only 14 points to reach 1,000 points. Wiese struggled last weekend scoring only nine points in the two games and will look to get back on track. UMC is led on the boards by Laurie Tyson, a senior who is also inching in on a major accomplishment. Tyson needs only 25 rebounds to surpass Kari Score's school-record 572 rebounds.

Previewing the Beavers
The Minot State University women's basketball team enters the weekend with a 4-1 (2-1 NSIC) mark in their first year in the NSIC. The Beavers picked up a split last weekend in conference play with a win over Minnesota State University, Moorhead and a loss to Northern State University. Minot State has been led on the season by Australia transplant Carly Boag, a 6-1 junior, who is averaging 19.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Previewing the Marauders
The University of Mary women's basketball team enters the weekend with a 5-3 (1-2 NSIC) mark. The Marauders picked up a split last weekend as they defeated Northern State 78-66 and fell narrowly to MSU Moorhead 63-60. U-Mary has been led this season by Ali Collins, a senior guard, who is averaging 13.9 points per game and Shaunna Knife, a 5-11 forward, who comes in averaging 13.4 points per game. Knife also leads the Marauders, averaging 9.9 rebounds per contest.
